Abstract: A method of and apparatus for positioning a stock window covering in a sizing mechanism for sizing the window covering in a retail outlet includes obtaining a width specification for a finished window covering, which includes a bottom rail, a window covering material and a head rail, the method comprising. The stock window covering is disposed in a sizing mechanism adjacent a scale. The scale is calibrated from a cutting plane of the sizing mechanism, and has indicia that are twice the actual distance from the cutting plane. The center of the stock window covering is located on an indicia in the scale having a value equal to the width specification.

  • Patent number: 6619168
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for automatic cutting of graphics area(s) from a sheet of material which includes such graphics area(s), the graphics areas having a plurality of registration marks in predetermined positions with respect thereto and including a subset of the marks on no more than one side of the graphics area which are initial-position/orientation-determining marks. The method involves placing the sheet on a sheet-receiving surface, attempting to sense the subset in the field of view of a main sensor, and, when the subset is not in an expected location, automatically determining the coordinate region of the subset on the sheet-receiving surface and automatically repositioning the main sensor to the coordinate region such that the subset is within the field of view of the main sensor.

  • Patent number: 6619167
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for cutting a graphics area from a sheet of material which includes such graphics area. The method improved involves applying a plurality of registration marks on the sheet at and about the graphics area in predetermined positions at the time the graphics are applied thereto, the plurality of marks including a subset of marks (the subset preferably being a tandem pair of marks) which is applied on one side of the graphics area which are used to determine the position and orientation of the sheet, sensing the locations of the registration marks on the sheet of material at the time of cutting, and cutting the graphics area from the ready-to-cut sheet along a path determined in response to the sensed positions of the registration marks with respect to the graphics area at that time, whereby precise cutting occurs despite two-dimensional distortion of the sheet prior to cutting.

Abstract: First and second rotating units (110, 120) include a pair of rotors (111, 121) opposing each other, a spindle (113, 123) provided between the pair of rotors, and an impacting body (130, 140) mounted rotatably on the spindle (113, 123). The impacting body (130, 140) is mounted so that a predetermined fitting gap is provided between the impacting body and the spindle and a part of a periphery of the impacting body can be positioned beyond a periphery of the rotor. The impacting bodies of the first and second rotating units impact on an object to be processed sequentially while the rotating units are rotated at a high speed, thereby cutting the object to be processed. A cutting depth by the impacting body of the second rotating unit is larger than that by the impacting body of the first rotating unit, and the impacting body of at least one of the rotating units impacts on the object to be processed at least at a critical impact velocity.

Abstract: An optical encoder is mounted on the end of the shaft of one roller, which is in turn mounted on framework of the equipment and is driven by a film of material. A computer receives a number of impulses per roller revolution with such impulses transmitted from the optical encoder during the film's passing over the roller. Software of the computer is programed with the exact circumference of the roller before shipment and the computer calculates the amount of film that has passed over the roller and fires solenoid valves to precipitate punching operations based upon the distance traveled by the film. Upon receiving an electrical impulse from the computer control, a solenoid valve releases an intermittent burst of compressed air through a tube to a housing which contains a plastic actuator, a plunger and a spring and which has several holes drilled in it to facilitate movement of said compressed air. The burst of compressed air forces the actuator and plunger downward.

Abstract: A novel knife apparatus and method are disclosed for cutting a plurality of articles from a sheet or web of material. The knife can be formed in or secured to the outer surface of a rotary die cutter. The knife includes a first cutting member having a first end, and second and third cutting members joined to the first end of the first cutting member. The second and third cutting members are arranged relative to one another to form an arcuate section which intersects with the first cutting member to form a non-symmetrical configuration having a cutting edge knife thickness in the range of about 0.003 inches to about 0.005 inches. A unique knife profile enables two adjacently arranged articles to be cut simultaneously from a sheet or web of material with zero clearance between at least a portion of the outer peripheries of the two articles.

  • Patent number: 6237454
Abstract: Cast metal parts are created for use in making machinery. When these parts are formed, unwanted material remains in the openings of the parts. This material, called flash, must be removed. In the method of the present invention, the cast parts are placed on a platen of a trim press that has multi-part punches attached thereto that are configured to self-align with the openings in the cast part and operative to evenly remove the flash. The invention also relates to a punch that initially breaks through the flash with a stationary punch that removes a majority of the flash inside the opening of the cast part. Next, a moving or self-centering punch self-aligns to the opening in the cast part and operates to remove the remaining flash. The inventive punch may also include a mounting base for attachment of the multi-part punches to the plate or platen of the press.
