Abstract: A cutting indicator includes an adjusting base pivotally mounted to a saw arm of a circular saw, a lens mounted in the saw arm, and a laser generator mounted on the adjusting base. When a laser beam generated by the laser generator passes through the lens, the laser beam is converted to a laser plane that forms a laser indicating line on the workpiece to be cut by the circular saw. Adjusting the adjusting base causes the plane beam to be quickly switched between a predetermined first plane position and a predetermined second plane position that are aligned substantially parallel to two opposing lateral planes of the circular saw blade. Thus, quick adjustment of the laser indicating line can be easily achieved.

Abstract: An automatic slicing apparatus reduces the likelihood of failure to make a sliced piece specimen even if continuously operated. The apparatus, on the basis of an exchange command signal, detaches a sample block attached to a cutting base and attaches a new sample block to the cutting base. The apparatus cuts a sliced piece of a predetermined thickness by moving a knife with respect to the sample block having been attached to the cutting base. The apparatus also observes the sliced piece having been cut and judges the sliced piece by comparing an observation data obtained by the observation means and a sample block cut face data. When the apparatus judges that the sliced piece is good, the apparatus transmits an exchange command signal.

A movable table on the turntable holds the workpiece of a material to be punched and is movable accurately in X and Y directions by micrometers for independent movement. The workpiece can thus be moved in X and Y directions on the apparatus without relating the movements to any X and Y coordinate system on the workpiece. The workpiece is accurately marked with reference indicia such as a circle, a line or a plurality of points for accurately monitoring the position of the indicia by direct visual viewing of the indicia through a microscope. The workpiece is accurately positioned by rotating the turntable and moving of the movable table along X and Y directions with the material to be punched thereon.

Abstract: A method of magnetically recording photographic pictures into a magnetic disc contained in a magnetic disc pack. According to this method of recording image signals of the photographic pictures, the photographic pictures formed on a roll-shaped print are successively taken by a video camera before being cut from one frame to another, and the image signals of the photographic pictures are magnetically recorded into a magnetic disc. In consequence, the flow of the existing photographic processing laboratory system is not impaired. Further, photographed subjects of the video camera are not separated from one another, so that the photographed subjects can be processed easily at the time of video taking.

  • Patent number: 4601224
Abstract: A hot wire cutting system for cutting a pattern shape in a block of polyfoam for use as a casting mold for a metal shielding block to be used in radiotherapy treatments is described. The system provides proportioned current responsive to deflection of the hot cutter wire in order to cancel the deflection and maintain the wire in its optimal central cutting position. The hot cutter-wire preferably passes through a field which provides fine vibratory motion of the cutting wire allowing use of lower wire temperatures to effect the cutting. The system may include optical means for determining the accuracy of the profile cut in the polyfoam block.

  • Patent number: 4532838
Abstract: Method in a microtome, especially an ultramicrotome, in which a knife edge, turnable around its longitudinal axis, is used to cut sections from a specimen by making the specimen downwardly pass over the knife edge. The distance between the knife edge and the specimen before cutting is made extremely narrow without the specimen touching the knife. The slit is lit up from below by a light waveguide, one end of which is located under the knife edge and is turned with this and the other end of which is lit up by a light source movable in relation to the turning of the knife edge. The light from the waveguide is reflected against the surfaces of the knife as well as of the specimen which are turned towards the slit. The image of the knife surface reflected in the specimen surface, the size of which is proportional to the breadth of the slit, is viewed from at least one point located in a vertical plane outside of the vertical plane of the slit and on the same side of this as the knife.

  • Patent number: 4503740
Abstract: An optical cutting edge locator for a cutting machine having a knife for cutting single or multiple sheets of material comprises a light source, a light-projecting system above the knife for downwardly projecting a beam of light from the light source along a planar surface of the knife generally perpendicular to the material, thereby to cause a shadow to be cast by the cutting edge of the knife and to create a line between a shadow area and a light area on the material in substantially the same plane as the cutting edge. The light-projecting system includes either a plurality of fiber optic transmission lines having light-emitting ends mounted above the knife or an elongated slot above the knife. The plane of the planar surface of the knife generally bisects either the light-emitting ends of the fiber optic transmission lines or the elongated slot so that the beam of light being downwardly projected is split by the planar surface of the knife.

Abstract: A movable guide system for material or cloth cutting out machines which can be easily manipulated and thereby facilitate the rapid filling of orders. The movable guide system employs the rotary arm machine principle, in which a frame extends over a laying table in a portal-like manner, wherein a carriage is rotatably fastened to the frame generally centrally above the laying table, wherein the carriage is retained at its pivot point displaceable relative to the frame and in which the cutting out element is fastened to one end of the carriage. The cloth cutting element is in each position thereof displaceable and rotatable with respect to the laying table, so that each point of the work area can be reached from every other point on the work area and whereby the motion of the cutting out element can also be easily carried out manually.
