Abstract: A clutch mechanism includes a bolt threadably received by a drive shaft and configured to secure the blade on an inner washer disposed about the drive shaft. The clutch mechanism also includes a spring assembly that is generally annularly disposed around the bolt. When the spring assembly is compressed, the spring assembly is configured to grip the blade inner washer and the spring assembly. At least one shallow pocket and at least one deep pocket are disposed in a lower surface of an upper retainer, and at least one geometric spacer extends from the spring assembly. In the coupled condition, the geometric spacer is engaged with the shallow pocket, and in the uncoupled condition, the plug structure is engaged with the deep pocket.
Abstract: A cutting head assembly for use in cutting plate glass has a simplified drive train, all positioned about the vertical rotational centerline. The drive train includes a hollow bore drive motor having a drive adaptor directly engaged with a spline shaft that extends through the hollow bore. The lower end of the spline shaft is directly engaged with a cutting tool holder for retaining a cutting tool. The drive motor imparts rotational movement to the cutting tool through the spline shaft and the cylinder imparts vertical movement to the cutting tool by vertical movement of the spline shaft.
Abstract: A circular saw clutch assembly includes an elongated rod that is coupled to a table saw assembly. A peripheral flange is integrally attached to the rod. The flange has a plurality of ball bearings mounted therein. A first washer abuts the flange and includes a plurality of depressions therein positioned for removably receiving the ball bearings. The rod is extended through a saw blade. A first fastener secures the saw blade against the first washer. A second washer is abutted against the flange. A biasing assembly is positioned on the rod and biases the second washer against the flange so that the second washer biases each of the ball bearings into one of the depressions. The rod rotates freely of the first washer and the saw blade when an item being cut by the saw blade arrests rotation of the saw blade.
Abstract: A press for forming a workpiece with a tooling set includes an actuator assembly carrying a movable half or punch of the tooling set and having a two phase operation. In the first phase the actuator provides relatively low force in moving the punch to an intermediate position in close proximity to the workpiece. A sensor detects the position of the punch, and when the punch reaches the intermediate position provides a continue signal. The second phase of actuator operation is conditioned on occurrence of the continue signal, and uses normal high force to press the movable tooling half against the workpiece to complete the operation. The low force first phase allows obstructions of any kind to stop movement of the punch during the first phase before high force applied to the actuator may cause damage or injury to the obstruction. In a preferred embodiment the actuator assembly has hydraulic operation.

Abstract: A power tool includes a motor, an arbor driven by the motor, a rotatable cutting tool disposed on the arbor and having a rotational axis, the cutting tool further having a hole, first and second clamps connected to the arbor and clamping the blade, wherein one of the cutting tool and at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor have a first drive surface for contacting a second drive surface on the other of the cutting tool and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor, the second drive surface being movable between a first position contacting the first drive surface and a second position bypassing the first drive surface. The second drive surface is resiliently connected to the other of the cutting tool and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor. At least one metal strip connects the second drive surface to the other of the blade and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor.

Abstract: An adjustable cutting bar having a pair of cutting blades for use on a rotary press folding machine includes a rotatable shaft supported on a frame, a first cutting blade secured to the shaft for common rotation therewith, and a second cutting blade rotatably mounted to the shaft to permit circumferential rotation of the second cutting blade relative to the first cutting blade. A drive system is operatively connected to the first and second cutting blades for rotating the first and second cutting blades at a common peripheral speed.
Abstract: In a toggle type punch driving system, the upper and lower ends of a bendable lever which can bend at an intermediate part thereof are pivotably connected to a fulcrum member and a ram respectively, and an advancing/retreating member for bending the lever is connected to the bendable part of the bending lever. The fulcrum member is formed as a vertically pivotable lever and it is borne by an upper/lower position switchover mechanism composed of a second bendable lever supported between a free end of the fulcrum member and frame, and an air cylinder. A retraction stroke of the ram necessary for tool change is assigned to the bending motion of the second bendable lever to diminish the punching stroke of the ram based on the bending motion of the bendable lever.
Abstract: The top and bottom ends of a pivoting lever, which is pivotable in the middle, are rotatably connected with a supporting component and a ram, respectively. A shuttle component is linked with the pivot point of the pivoting lever. The shuttle component drives the pivoting lever forcing it to pivot, and when the shuttle component reaches the midpoint of the stroke the pivoting is fully extended. The shuttle component is shuttled by way of a crank, utilizing a servomotor as the drive source. The ram drives the punching tool and is held by the frame in the way that it can readily make the up and down motion.
Abstract: An improved fastener assembly is disclosed comprising a threaded fastener combined with two disc shaped washer components wherein one disc component is resilient and mounted to relatively rotate with respect to the threaded fastener and other disc component. A dry lubricant material is provided between the disc components to facilitate the relative rotation.
Abstract: A safety device for limiting axial operating loads which are exerted on a drive worm of a machine, such as a platen press, including a pressure chamber receiving a first piston connected to an auxiliary shaft, which is axially shiftable and non-rotatable, and is connected to one end of a main shaft of the drive worm. Fluid pressure in the pressure chamber holds the piston in a first position to maintain the axially displaceable connection of the other end of the main shaft to a drive shaft. In response to an axial overload, the pressure in the pressure chamber is relieved to eliminate the holding feature to allow the main shaft to shift axially to disengage it from the drive shaft. The safety device includes a second piston for moving the first piston to the first position where the drive shaft and main shaft are recoupled when the machine is in a rest position.
Abstract: A method and a device for protecting against a press overload is disclosed whereby, when an excessive pressure which exceeds a specified hydraulic pressure is transmitted to a pressure chamber of a press cylinder, this excessive pressure activates the punching of a shear plate by a shear piston and the excessive pressure is released by the shear piston.
Abstract: A punching apparatus, preferably for punching intermittently moving webs of synthetic thermoplastics, comprises top and bottom tools, which are mounted in a machine frame and at least one of which is connected to a drive for moving said one tool up and down. The tools for making the punching cut consist of a knife plate or a knife ring and a backing plate or a backing ring and at the end of the punching cut strike against each other or almost contact each other.
Abstract: An override for a positive drive mechanism which includes a first bearing block which is fixedly secured to tie rods and a second bearing block which is secured to the tie rods through release and relatch means. The blocks are designed to couple to either a positive drive unit or a unit to be driven by the drive unit. When the driven unit encounters a solid obstruction, release and relatch means associated with the second bearing block will permit the tie rods to slide within the second bearing block, thereby allowing the driven unit to stop. The override mechanism is advantageous in that within a relatively small physical size when a high maximum preselected load in the mechanism is attained, the mechanism will release and apply no further load to the drive. Very long override strokes can be accommodated after which the device will reset at the end of each stroke.
Abstract: A shearing apparatus for performing several modes of operation on travelling or stationary material. Two cooperative knife drums, which can be rendered rotatable or non-rotatable, form a gap whose spacing is varied by hydraulic piston cylinder assemblies, one mounted on opposed ends of the upper or bottom drum. The adjustable knife drum is held in a parallel or non-parallel positioning or caused to rock with or without additional high frequency oscillations by controlling and regulating the pressure in the cylinders, while simultaneously moving the upper drum towards the lower drum and/or rotating both drums.

Abstract: Between a plurality of side-by-side punches and an operating slide having reciprocating motion is arranged a selective motion transmission device which consists of two pluralities of toothed couplings in mutually opposed positions. The toothed couplings of a first plurality are made integral with the punches while the others follow the reciprocating motion of the slide but are shiftable transversally to it between a neutral position and a working position. In the latter position the teeth of the opposed couplings are mutually aligned and thus allow transmission of the reciprocating motion of the slide to the corresponding punches.
Abstract: A hydraulic shearing machine for cutting steel sheets and the like in which the lower blade is fixed between two vertical end-plates of the frame while the upper blade is carried by a movable apron. The support provided for the lower cutting blade consists of a hollow box which extends horizontally between the vertical end-plates of the shearing-machine frame and only the ends of which are attached to the frame. The lower blade is fixed against one of the side walls of the support box so as to be displaced with respect to the theoretical center of rotation of said support box about its own axis. In consequence, the vertical forces exerted on the lower blade at the time of utilization of the shearing machine tend to produce a twisting movement of the support box, thus providing compensation for the horizontal flexural displacement of the box under the action of the horizontal forces.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a safety device for an upper die arbor of a fastening machine having a driving sleeve, an upper mold mandrel, a copper sleeve, and a steel sleeve. The driving sleeve has a roller in each of four holes. A flange is formed on the circumference of upper mold mandrel. Due to the positions of the rollers with respect to the flange, and the difference between inside diameters of quadrangular slots formed in the copper sleeve and steel sleeve, when the upper mold mandrel moves downward and is blocked by an undesired object, the rollers pass over the flange and do not exert the normal forming force on the upper mold mandrel. Therefore, the upper mold mandrel does not exert the mechanical crushing force in order to prevent injury to the object.
Abstract: A paper cutting device for use in a printer for cutting off a sheet of recording paper. A first cutter blade is supported on a frame of the device and a second cutter blade pivotably supported on the frame is movable over the first cutter blade to cut off a section of the recording paper. A support member on the frame acts as a fulcrum for the second cutter blade. A drive lever pivots the second cutter blade about the support member towards the first cutter blade to cut off the recording paper. The device is constructed to prevent malfunction of and damage to the device and printer in which it is utilized.
Abstract: A punching device comprising a pair of opposed complementary dies vertically guided by a pair of guide rods each rotatably connected to a crank pin to continuously punch band material moving between the dies. The crank pins rotate synchronously in opposed directions with their crank centers spaced only vertically relative to the working plane. Each of the dies supports a plurality of cooperating tools and the tools in one of the dies are independently axially movable male punches sealingly guided in ducts communicating with a closed chamber filled with a fluid.
Abstract: An apparatus for tenderizing meat has a movable head member with closely-spaced, independently force-limited cutting elements positioned over a conveyor belt for severing the meat fibers with orthogonally oriented cuts as the meat is successively positioned by longitudinal and lateral movements of the conveyor belt. The cutting elements are secured in position by magnets exerting a predetermined force. When the resistance encountered in the meat exceeds this force, the cutting elements will be pushed back into the movable head member, thereby protecting them from damage.
Abstract: An arrangement for frictionally coupling a saw blade to a trunnion projecting from one end of a drive shaft and permitting rotation of the saw blade relative to the trunnion upon excessive strain on the saw blade, in which the saw blade can be mounted only in a correct way in accordance with the direction of rotation of the drive shaft on the trunnion. The saw blade is frictionally held between two annular clamping elements on the trunnion. One of the annular clamping elements abuts against a shoulder formed at the junction of the drive shaft and trunnion and the other abuts directly or under the imposition of a pressure ring against the head of a screw screwed into an axial bore extending from the end face of the trunnion into the latter. The saw blade has an axial projection and the annular clamping element on the side of this projection is constructed in such a manner that the saw blade, without being hindered by the projection, may abut against this clamping element and turn relative thereto.

A member for supporting an object(s) to be notched is also mounted on the base adjacent to the upright support, first and second cooperating cutting members, the first cutting member being fixedly secured to the base and the second member being connected to the upright support. A member for reciprocating the second cutting member is mounted to the upright support so as to operatively cooperate with the first cutting member and thereby form a notch in the object(s).
Abstract: There is disclosed a pinning machine having an improved plunger, an improved guide track and an improved knife assembly. The plunger has relatively movable sections threadably connected together to enable the length of the plunger to be changed so that tags can be pinned to different thicknesses of merchandise by changing the plunger length. The guide track includes a one-piece leaf spring which acts against one edge of a web of record members to urge the other side of the web against an edge guide. The spring is resiliently held in captivity in a recess without being secured in the recess as by fasteners. The knife assembly includes a pair of fixed knives separated by a gap and a movable knife guided by guide means in the gap. The movable knife is floatingly or loosely mounted so that the guide means is the sole means for guiding the movable knife relative to the fixed knives.
Abstract: Hydraulic overload protection device for a press comprises a housing receiving therein a piston defining with this housing a space communicating via a check valve with a supply source and via a relief valve with a drain. This space additionally communicates with the drain via a line including an adjustable relief valve and a device for disconnecting the said space from the drain, when the movable member of the press, carrying a die, has been driven through the maximum length of its stroke. The disclosed protection device offers fine adjustment of the pressing or stamping effort and prolongs the service life of dies.

Abstract: An overload safety device having a housing reciprocally movable through forward and reverse strokes of a set length. The housing has a cylinder and a piston mounted for reciprocal movement in the cylinder between a normal extended position and a retracted position. Fluid pressure is directed against one side of the piston for releasably holding the piston in its normal extended position. The piston has a rod to which a tool is attached at one end for performing an operation on a work piece upon reciprocal movement of the housing. If the tool should strike an obstruction, a slight displacement of the piston relative to the housing away from its normal extended position discontinues the fluid pressure directed against one side of the piston and directs it against the opposite side of the piston for rapidly moving the piston to its retracted position. The overload safety device may further be operated as a double acting cylinder.
