    Abstract: A sawmill including a band saw, mounted on a carriage. A moving shear rail is connected to the carriage such that the shear rail moves in synchronization with the band saw. The moving shear rail has a notch formed in the upper edge, and is positioned so that the notch is aligned with the band saw blade, and the upper edge of the moving shear rail extends at least to even with the band saw blade, and possibly even beyond the saw blade. The moving shear rail includes a shear rail plate carrying the notch, and a flexible element connected at each end of the shear rail plate. The flexible element is formed of conveyor links reeved about a pair of reels, including a last link that is removably connected to the shear rail plate. Each of the reels is mounted to a standard, one having a pivot, allowing that reel to be pivoted away.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a shearing machine in which the upper shearing blade can be easily adjusted and positioned. The upper blade is held on a pivotal plate member which is pivotally held on a ram by means of a hinge means to be rotated to adjust of the position of the upper blades. In addition, a hold down member is provided for holding a work-sheet. The hold down member is arranged to be urged by a toggle joint to hold the work-sheet at a reduced speed with an increased force after coming into contact with the work-sheet. A scrap removal member is also included in the shearing machine such that scraps can be easily removed without mingling them with the finished sheets. The scrap removal member removes scrap without idle time between feeding the work-sheets to be sheared. The shearing machine is so arranged that scraps are taken away directly to a scrap box as soon as the work-sheet has been completely sheared into its finished product.

A gear mechanism is coupled between a drive motor and the lower portion of the ram assembly and the die holder to effect simultaneous rotation thereof, which effects reorientation of the tooling relative to the X and Y axes of the punch press. In this fashion, rotation of the tooling will enable a single set of tooling to effect cutouts of different orientation in a workpiece relative to the X and Y axes, and movement of the sheet material along the X and Y axes together with such rotation of the tooling enables complex configurations to be nibbled or cutout with a limited number of sets of tools.

Means for actuating the strikers are provided to lower the upper blade to engage the lower blade, shearing the workpiece between the two blades.
