  • Patent number: 4515048
Abstract: A rotary cut-off blade is mounted on a motor shaft and is moved axially with the motor into contact with the outer surface of a printed circuit board having an inner surface engaging a vertical side wall or plate of a suction box supported for horizontal reciprocating movement. The printed circuit board supports electronic components which project into the suction box, and soldered lead wires project outwardly through holes within the board. The blade is retracted by a predetermined minute distance and then rotated by the motor while the printed circuit board is moved horizontally past the blade with the suction box to shear the projecting lead wires at the predetermined distance from the outer surface of the board and independently of the thickness of the board.

Abstract: A multiple gob glass shearing mechanism in which the sets of opposed shear blades are supported for movement toward and away from each other in a straight line or with parallel motion. One set of shears is mounted on a shear guide that can be adjusted up or down relative to the holder of the opposed set of shears. This adjustment is for the purpose of adjusting the tension on all the sets of blades simultaneously and can be affected when the shears are in operation. The drive for the shears may be unlatched for safety purposes when out of position and when put back into operation the shear blades will not close unless the latch is refastened.

  • Patent number: 4494444
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting glass wherein a scoring element is pivotally connected to the upper arm of a substantially U-shaped member. The lower arm of such member is clamped to a housing and may be rotated with respect thereto such that the upper arm and thus the scoring element may be moved to various positions overlying the top surface of the supporting table for the sheet of glass or other material. A roller or wheel that projects slightly above the supporting surface and which may be motor driven is used to frictionally guide the sheet beneath the scoring element. In order to apply the necessary pressure between the scoring element and the sheet, a force or jacking mechanism is supported between the upper and lower arm so as to force the arms apart to a spread position. Thereafter the scoring element is positioned against the glass surface and the jacking element released such that the arms move together by inherent spring tension so as to apply the desired predetermined force upon the glass sheet.

  • Patent number: 4484503
Abstract: A microtome, especially an ultramicrotome, is disclosed in which a forward-feed system for the specimen arm and/or knife of the microtome comprises a stepping motor which is controlled by a pulse generator and which shifts the specimen arm, and the knife, relative to each other by an appropriate amount of forward feed in accordance with a forward-feed value which is set at one of a plurality of preselector switches. In order to facilitate quick switching over from one forward-feed amplitude to another, permitting the selection of forward-feed amplitudes which differ by an order of magnitude, for example, if semi-thin sections are to be produced during a run of ultra-thin sections, the forward-feed amplitudes set by the preselector switches can be switched, according to choice, to the pulse generator for the stepping motor by means of a changeover switch. This arrangement enables the operator to alter the forward-feed amplitude by one manual action without disturbing the ongoing operation.

  • Patent number: 4041820
Abstract: An anvil roll has a steel core and an outer portion of polyurethane. The roll is slightly rotated after a number of veneer clipping operations by a clutch which drives the roll after the roll is pushed by a knife down away from arcuate braking surfaces. An airbag normally urges the roll into engagement with the braking surfaces and is collapsed during adjustment of the roll. Operation of the clutch is prevented during the clipping operation. A double-acting cylinder drives the knife through a toggle joint linkage, and cushioning cylinder means aid in overcoming inertia of the knife at the start of a clipping cycle and also cushion the return of the knife. The cylinder has poppet check valves to rapidly admit air thereto.

  • Patent number: 4040320
Abstract: A punching machine for use in punching holes in the sides of articles incorporating two C-shaped assemblies forming punching tool supports and guided within the machine in such a way that they can be displaced and moved away from each other. Means are provided for placing the assemblies, on the one hand, in a working position, in which the position of a punch tool on one of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined distance from a guide plane coinciding with a guiding surface on the article to be drilled, and in which the spacing of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined value, and on the other hand, in a position for rotation of the article to be drilled, such that each assembly is displaced in relation to its working position in the sense of an increase in the distance separating the two assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4030390
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting items, such as individual photographs, from a printed sheet comprising a sliding tray having a lower die to support the sheet and adapted to be moved into a housing containing an upper die. The lower die includes a series of male die members corresponding in shape to the individual photographs and the marginal area bordering the die members is spring loaded and biased to an upper position. The upper die has a series of recesses or female die members corresponding in shape to the male die members of the lower die. As the upper die is moved downwardly, the individual photographs are severed from the sheet by the shearing action of the cooperating die members.

  • Patent number: 4014232
Abstract: A partition slotting machine having a punch and die assembly built as a unit to be separable from the machine for repair, replacement and adjustment of punch, die and operating parts away from the machine, so that the machine may continue operating by installation of a substituted pre-assembled punch and die unit during such servicing. The separable unit includes the die bed with dies adjustably positionable thereacross, a press head movably connected to the die bed and containing punches adjustable positioned thereacross to mate with the dies, and parts of a press head moving mechanism involved in adjusting the position of the press head relative to a drive shaft on the machine which drive shaft is coordinated with other machine functions.

  • Patent number: 3935811
Abstract: A bolster table device for a punch press includes a reciprocable table positioned upon a support plate and movable along guideways. The support plate and table have inclined confronting planar surfaces which engage each other when the table is in a retracted position whereby the entire impact load exerted by the punch press is transferred to the support plate. The inclined confronting planar surfaces of the table and support plate are spaced from each other when the table is shifted towards and away from the retracted position. The bolster table is reciprocated by a closed hydraulic system which is operated by a driven cam device.

  • Patent number: 3935770
Abstract: Punching press apparatus including an exchangeable tool set having upper and lower punching tools movable toward one another by a pressing ram to punch parts from sheet metal material. A stacking duct extends vertically downwardly from thepunching dies to accommodate a plurality of the punched out parts, which parts are then conveyed by endless magnetic conveyor belts arranged below the stacking duct, to remote part stacking mandrels and the like. In order to accommodate exchange of the punching tools without disconnection or emptying of the stacking ducts, the stacking ducts extend downardly to a position spaced upwardly of a press table supporting a toolholding plate, which toolholding plate supports the lower punching tool. The stacking ducts are formed as inserts in the toolholding plate so that a very simple exchange of the punching tools and toolholding plates can be effected by lateral movement of the units including the toolholding plate and punching tool out of the press ram working area.
