The device includes an elongated stand for holding the melon in a detachable cutting station with a cutting blade member and a movable butt plate that is adjustable to provide melon slices of the desired width. The device includes a blade retaining member to keep the blade member in an upright position while the melon is moved forward after each slice to contact the butt plate. The device is easily adaptable for both left handed and right handed operation. The device is especially useful for making transverse slices of the desired width of elongated melons such as a watermelon in an efficient manner.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2001Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Inventor: Steven M. Publication number: 20020112579Abstract: The described method serves for trimming or cutting during conveyance in a conveying direction (F) substantially in parallel to their main surfaces, flat objects along predetermined cutting lines parallel to the conveying direction (F). The objects are conveyed between a first and a second cutting edge (SK1 and SK2) and are cut by a relative movement of the two cutting edges. The first cutting edge (SK1) is positioned, e.g. stationary, in the plane of a support surface supporting the objects and for each cutting process, the second cutting edge (SK2) is moved past the first cutting edge in such a manner that at least the cutting point on the second cutting edge has a speed component in conveying direction (F) which has the same size as the conveying direction and a speed component perpendicular to the support surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2001Publication date: August 22, 2002Inventor: Erich Jager

Patent number: 6434909Abstract: A tool and a method for cutting and installing roofing shingles. The tool includes a base with a work surface and a cutter for cutting shingles placed on the work surface. The work surface include at least one limiting pedestals which includes an edge at a distance from the work surface, so that several shingles stacked over one another and placed over the work surface and slid against the edge of the limiting pedestal to expose different proportions of the shingles to the cutter to produce shingle sections of different sizes. The different sized shingle sections are then used to start the rows of shingles placed on the roof to be covered with shingles.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Inventor: James H. Carpenter

Publication number: 20020038592Abstract: A bread slicer that has a knife frame, a damper and a variable rate control. The knife frame is movable between first and second positions. The damper is coupled to the knife frame and is configured to affect the rate of movement of the knife frame. The variable rate control assembly has an actuator coupled with the damper to selectively affect the rate of movement of the knife frame.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2000Publication date: April 4, 2002Inventors: Robert W. Publication number: 20020007713Abstract: A paper cutter includes a main board and a cutting member. The main board has a side blade attached to an engaging side for positioning of a document, and a slant surface formed at a front portion of the engaging side. The slant surface extends outwards from a predetermined position of the engaging side to form a first acute angle, and the slant surface further extends outwards from its upper edge to form an obtuse angle. The cutting member includes an edge blade fixed on one side for engaging with the side blade of the main board for cutting the document. The edge blade extends outward from its top side so as to form a second acute angle with the flat surface of the side blade.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2000Publication date: January 24, 2002Inventor: Cheng-Chen Lee

Publication number: 20010037712Abstract: Scissors include a first cutting blade, a second cutting blade and a support shaft. The first cutting blade has a handle and is formed with a through hole. The second cutting blade has a handle and is formed with an insertion hole. The support shaft extends through the through hole of the first cutting blade and the insertion hole of the second cutting blade, for pivotally connecting the first cutting blade and the second cutting blade in a manner such that the first cutting blade and the second cutting blade can perform relative rotation about the support shaft with respect to each other to thereby perform a cutting operation. The second cutting blade has a spring nut portion formed in the form of a spring nut on an inner peripheral surface of the insertion hole.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 1997Publication date: November 8, 2001Inventors: SHIGEO FURUHATA, TETSUO KOZAKAI
