With Lost Motion In Tool Drive Patents (Class 83/616)
  • Patent number: 8763503
Abstract: Personal cutting devices in the form of hand held punches for producing jewelry display cards include two aligned templates having identical patterns of apertures and being securely mounted in a frame such that a space between the templates accommodates a piece of cardstock. There is a spring biased movable member having elongate cutting elements designed to pass through the apertures in both templates, and an activation lever on which indicia is printed to show the aperture patterns produced by the punches. A housing protects the mechanism. Each punch is specifically designed to produce a display card that can hold and display a single article of jewelry such as a pair of earrings, a necklace or a brooch. The punches vary in size according to the template patterns. The punches enable the jewelry designer to use any card stock, including a business card, to display an article of jewelry.

  • Patent number: 8661953
Abstract: A trimmer to cut a backing on which an overlay is mounted. The trimmer includes cutting blades and a removable fence that has a stop. The fence is carried by a pair of risers that are capable of moving relative to the work surface. A rotatable lever arm is coupled to the risers by a linking cam rod. When the lever arm and linking cam rod are rotated in a first direction, the risers move upwardly from the work surface and the stop of the fence is lifted upwardly and off the work surface to create a gap that enables the backing to move past the fence to the cutting blades to be trimmed. When the lever arm and linking cam rod rotate in an opposite direction, the risers move downwardly toward the work surface, and the stop is lowered against the backing to prevent the overlay from moving to the cutting blades.

  • Patent number: 7357869
Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanical lock for securing one or more filters within a filtration device and methods for producing the mechanical lock. The use of an interference fit punch causes a portion of the inner surface of the wall to be skived and rolled along the wall until it reaches the desired location where it forms a mechanical crimp to retain the one or more filters within the device. In one embodiment, the inner surface has an inwardly taper. In the other, it has straight walls or outwardly tapered walls. The use of a gasket such as an O-ring on top of the filter before the wall is skived provides a liquid tight seal.

  • Patent number: 7243586
Abstract: The apparatus for cutting cushion-like packaging material from a web-like supply of material having at least two layers has a base plate (1), a fixed knife (2) and a movable knife (3), which are arranged above the base plate (1), as well as a drive arrangement for the movable knife. The base plate (1) is connected to a shaft (6) for feeding the packaging material. The drive mechanism is connected drive-wise to the movable knife. A counter-holder (5) with a support surface (22) to support the packaging material during cutting and a means for holding (23) the counter-holder (5) above the fixed knife (2) are provided, the whole being such that the support surface (22) is flush with the cutting edge (17) of the fixed knife. By means of the counter-holder, the cutting is improved in an advantageous manner and paper jams are avoided.

  • Patent number: 7011008
Abstract: A device for cutting pieces of material comprising a base, a bridge assembly and a lever arm. The bridge assembly includes a gear assembly operatively connected to the base. The lever arm is coupled to the gear assembly, and a linking member is coupled to the gear assembly; A material clamp is operatively connected to the linking member, and a cutting blade is operatively connected to the linking member. The movement of the lever arm of the first position towards the second position results in the gear assembly and the linking member cooperating to cause the material clamp to move towards the base and affix the position of pieces of material located between the base and the material clamp. The cutting blade comes into contact with and severs the pieces of material after the position of the pieces of material has been fixed by the material clamp.

  • Patent number: 6000310
Abstract: A penetrating tool system for providing a penetration action in a workpiece. The system including a penetrating element and a basic displacement element for establishing a basic displacement between the workpiece and the penetrating element during which basic displacement the penetrating action is provided. An auxiliary displacement element for imparting to the penetrating element an auxiliary reciprocating displacement superimposed on the basic displacement during the penetration action. The auxiliary reciprocating displacement has a frequency and amplitude which are substantially invariant in time, independent of reactions of the workpiece to penetration, the frequency of the auxiliary reciprocating displacement being substantially greater than a frequency of the basic displacement.

  • Patent number: 4322994
Abstract: A profile-steel shear usable for cutting or punching profile-steel members has a pair of relatively fixed, spaced-apart, and parallel frame plates flanking a drive plate having a lower end edge engaging the upper end edge of a blade-type work plate. The outer faces of the drive and work plates are formed adjacent the abutting ends with grooves parallel to these abutting ends. U-shaped clips or elements each have one leg engaged in a respective groove of the drive plate and another leg engaged in a respective groove of the work plate so that these U-shaped elements secure the work and drive plates together for relative displacement by means of a hydraulic actuator normally situated atop the frame plates. These U-shaped elements are releasably retained on the work and drive plates with their legs in the respective grooves by means of screws engaged through them and with the work or drive plates.

  • Patent number: 4249436
Abstract: A label cut-off machine for removing a label sewn to a workpiece. The machine includes a label chamber sized to received the label through an access slot in one wall of that chamber. The access slot is defined by a reciprocable cutter bar and an anvil, the cutter bar and anvil presenting abutment faces which cooperate with the workpiece to allow positioning of the label's stitch line closely adjacent the cutter bar's cutting edge when the label is inserted into the label chamber. Operation of the cutter bar is controlled by the machine's operator. A vacuum source connected with the label chamber establishes a continuous vacuum in the chamber, the vacuum source cooperating to draw the label initially into the chamber through the access slot and to aid in locating the label stitch line initially adjacent the cutter bar's cutting edge, and the vacuum source also cooperating to remove the label from the label chamber after it has been cut off from the workpiece by the cutter bar.

  • Patent number: 4079647
Abstract: Apparatus for use with a pair of thermoplastic strips of the type illustrated in U.S. Pat. No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip.
