  • Patent number: 6688199
Abstract: The present invention relates to a punch for punching a workpiece. In particular, the invention relates to a punch including a base to stably support the punch and a support member configured to accommodate and locate the workpiece in a punching position. The support member is preferably movably connected to the base and preferably includes at least one punch member configured and operably associated with the support portion to punch the workpiece in the punching position upon an actuation movement of the support member with respect to the base. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a punch having a paper tray oriented at an angle with respect to the base to support a sufficient portion of a sheet of paper to prevent an unsupported portion from falling over and withdrawing from the support portion. In particular, the paper tray and punch mechanism are oriented to expel paper chips such that the chips are visible to an operator as they are punched.

  • Patent number: 5570678
Abstract: A shearing tool for cutting cement siding which includes upper and lower blade holders. Each blade holder has first and second ends and an elongated slot extending substantially therebetween. The blade holders are positioned so that the slots face each other and are substantially aligned. Upper and lower blades are removably mounted in the slots of the upper and lower blade holders, respectively. The upper and lower blades each have a relatively narrow cross-sectional width and a cutting edge. When positioned in the slots of the blade holders, the upper and lower blades define a cutting plane in which the cutting edges are substantially aligned and face each other. A number of links are operatively connected to the ends of the blade holders so that either the upper or lower blade holder can move towards the other in the cutting plane.

  • Patent number: 4700601
Abstract: Punches for paper and the like have a metal pin having a male punch element formed on one end and a pressure application area on the opposite end. To withdraw the punch pin an enlargement is formed at or near the opposite end, the enlargement cooperating with a gripper or a spring in the punch to cause the pin to retract when the pressure applicator retracts. • Patent number: 4685367
Abstract: The present invention relates to a power assembly and fluid supply system for use in a two cycle air cut-off press. The power assembly includes a bell crank having first and second arms extending outwardly at an angle from a fulcrum with the bell crank being pivotally mounted opposite the fulcrum. The arms have rollers connected to them and are positioned beneath guide bars which are alternately reciprocated by power cylinders. Due to the rollers, there are no lateral forces, reducing wear. A link interconnects the bell crank with the ram plate of the press. As the bell crank oscillates about its pivotal mount, the link transfers the oscillatory movement to the ram plate as reciprocal movement. The fluid supply system of the present invention includes an adjustable three-way valve connected to a source of pressurized fluid.

  • Patent number: 4630516
Abstract: An eccentric press which can be constructed a single connecting rod machine or a twin connecting rod machine is described. The press includes a stroke adjustment means having a support lever which is articulately connected at the joint between the two portions of a lever arrangement. The articulation joint is guided on an adjustable path of movement and the foot point of the support lever is guided variably in its position on a circular arc, the center point of the circular arc coinciding with the position of the articulation point which corresponds to the bottom dead center of the ram. As a result, a change in the ram stroke does not change the bottom dead center of the ram, only one ram stroke being executed per connecting rod revolution.

  • Patent number: 4620468
Abstract: In order to drive a punching machine electrically, with the aid of a double-armed rocker (70) a translational motion for the compression beam (10) is generated on the one hand, and a rotary motion for an opposing drive on the other hand. On the one side, the double-armed rocker (70) is driven by a rotating clutch shaft (50) by way of a crank gear (60-66) and, on the other side, a chain link (73) serves to control the compression beam. The opposing drive is operated by means of a one-arm rocker (75) and, also, by means of a chain link (76). To ensure the execution of an exact cycle, an engaging and disengaging claw clutch (31, 36) is present. The cycle is maintained by a cam disk arrangement (51) on the one hand, and a coupling groove (37) on a coupling box (32) with a coupling bolt (38), on the other hand. The above provides the electric drive for a rectilinear punching machine for punching sheets of paper for mechanical binding systems.

  • Patent number: 4579031
Abstract: In a two cycle air cut-off press having a bed plate, guide posts, a top plate upon the posts and a ram plate guidably mounted upon the post defining with the bed plate a die set area an improved power mechanism for the ram plate including first and second cylinder assemblies mounted upon the top plate including piston rods. A bell-crank is pivotally mounted upon the top plate and pivotally connected to the piston rods. A toggle linkage including a plurality of pairs of pivotally interconnected upper and lower links at their outer ends are connected respectively to the top plate and to the ram plate. A horizontally reciprocal control arm is connected to the toggle linkage and to the bell-crank whereby on alternate reciprocal movements of the piston rods and reciprocal pivotal movements of the bell-crank, the control arm is reciprocated and through the linkage effects reciprocal vertical movements of the ram plate.

  • Patent number: 4079647
Abstract: Apparatus for use with a pair of thermoplastic strips of the type illustrated in U.S. Pat. No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip.
