Envelope Blank Forming Patents (Class 83/911)
  • Patent number: 7263921
Abstract: A rotary cutter includes a hollow rotary mantle having a cutter arbor on an outer periphery thereof, through holes extending radially through the mantle, and an air distribution mechanism. The air distribution mechanism includes first and second parts. The first part is affixed to the mantle coaxially therein for rotation therewith. The second part is arranged inside the first part, wherein the first distribution part is rotatable relative to the second distribution part. The first and second air distribution parts define air passages for communicating selective ones of the through-holes of the mantle with an air source in response to relative rotation between the first and second distribution parts.

  • Patent number: 6959634
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for die-cutting a stack of sheet-like materials, particularly labels, whereby the stack is pressed into the die-cutter blade by a relative movement of a punching ram and a hollow cylindrical die-cutter blade. For a device such as this, it is proposed that the die-cutter blade 18 is adjustably held in a frame 16, and the frame 16 is accommodated by a receiving apparatus 13 which is mounted in a punch platen 12 and is adjustable relative to it, whereby the frame 16 can be slid in a plane parallel to the punch platen 12, in particular is adjustable in the direction of two major axes that are essentially arranged perpendicular to one another, and can also be tilted out of the plane. Such a device allows for precise orientation of the die-cutter blade relative to the stack to be punched.

  • Patent number: 6880443
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for die cutting a stack consisting of sheet-type materials, in particular labels. According to said method, a movement of a stack to be cut in relation to a hollow cylindrical be pushed into said die-cutter blade. This type of device is characterized in that the die-cutter blade (18) is adjustably mounted in a frame (16), which can be inserted in a holding device (13) perpendicularly to the relative displacement direction (K) of the stacks to be cut (7) and die-cutter blades (18), and can be fixed in a central position. The holding device (13) is mounted in a die-cutter head plate (12), in such a way that it can be adjusted in relation to the latter. A die-cutter device of this type has an extremely compact construction, as a result of the positioning and mounting of the die-cutter blade in the direction of the relative movement of the stack to be cut and the die-cutter blade.

Abstract: In a rotary press cutter for the production of envelope blanks, a flexible foil cutting die (8) is used. The leading edge of the foil cutting die (8) is anchored against a leading face (20) of the rotary punching roller (10), and the trailing portion of the foil cutting die (8) extends without creasing over a rounded outer portion of the blade anchorage slot, to be held against the outer periphery of the punching roller (10) by magnetic attraction from inset magnet means (15). The leading edge of the foil cutting die is preformed to provide a location and anchorage flange (24) which is bent without creasing to an obtuse angle to the remainder of the foil, with a radiussed junction between the flange (24) and the remainder of the foil. • Patent number: 4450740
Abstract: A rotary envelope machine blank cutter is provided with laterally adjustable, independent frame units for each meshing set of knife rolls for changing the depth of a side cut into a blank for envelope size and style production changes. The rotational and axial meshing of hard and soft knives respective to a single knife roll set is adjusted without disturbing the roll mount of either knife. Changes in envelope length or style are accommodated by the mechanical capacity to adjust the rotation cut timing between the knife roll sets of a two-set unit and also between respective cutting units of two or more two-set units. As in the case of lateral cut adjustments, knife roll mounts are undisturbed by rotational timing adjustments. Consequently, the machine may be quickly and accurately changed for production runs of any of several envelope style and several sizes respective to each style: all adjustments being made without disturbing the knife profile mesh of any knife set.

  • Patent number: 4136591
Abstract: A drive shaft of the gumming and folding section of an envelope machine rotates at a preselected speed and is drivingly connected through meshing gears to the input shaft of a variable speed drive mechanism. The input shaft is connected to an output shaft through a differential transmission so that the output shaft is driven at a preselected ratio relative to the speed of the input shaft. The output shaft is drivingly connected to a web feeding apparatus that conveys a continuous web of material from a supply roll at a preselected speed. Thus, the web feeding apparatus is driven at a predetermined ratio relative to the speed of the drive shaft. A web cutting apparatus is drivingly connected to the input shaft so that a cut off knife is rotated at a fixed speed relative to the drive shaft to cut the continuous web at preselected intervals to form envelope blanks having a bottom flap connected to a closure flap.

  • Patent number: 4125044
Abstract: A rotary cutting apparatus for forming serially connected envelope blanks from a longitudinally advancing web of sheet material is provided with two rotary knives, both of which rotate into cutting relationship with the same stationary knife but at different times. The web of sheet material is advanced over the stationary knife so that at least one side of the web is positioned between the stationary knife and each of the rotary knives to remove a section at the side of the web. With two sets of rotary and stationary knives operating respectively on the two sides of the web, a series of interconnected envelope blanks can be formed by feeding the web through the cutting apparatus at a speed coordinated with the rotations of the knives. By adjusting the angular relationship of the two rotary knives with respect to one another about the axis of rotation, the section of sheet material removed from the advancing web can be varied correspondingly.
