Patent number: 5379668Abstract: A signature booklet making apparatus for an electrophotographic printing machine, the booklet making machine having a trimmer blade blower and high capacity waste bin. Selectively operable air ducts are provided to distribute an airflow either across the trim blade to remove trim scraps or through a bypass duct to efficiently fill the waste bin with scrap. A valving mechanism responsive to the operation of the trimmer directs the airflow to the correct duct. By selectively causing the air to flow across the trim blade the chance of forcing thin booklets into the waste chute thereby causing jams is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Robert C. Patent number: 5259282Abstract: An improved wood debris clearing device and method for a cutoff saw is provided. The device includes a conveyor having upstream and downstream sections separated by a gap where cutting occurs along a conveyance path. A deflecting mechanism including two blowers, perpendicularly oriented with respect to the conveyance path, direct air streams across the conveyance path. Cutoff wood debris is deflected off an inner wall of a hood into a receptacle, thus preventing the debris from reaching the downstream section of the conveyor and minimizing the likelihood of machine jamming.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1992Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignee: Ultimizer's Inc.Inventor: Leroy B. Patent number: 5211092Abstract: An improved wood working facility has a table saw which is operated in combination with a table saw extension table. The extension table is provided with an array of orifices through which air is ejected to provide a buoyant support for boards and sheet material laid atop the extension table. An ordinary shop vacuum cleaner may be utilized as the source of air being expelled from the orifices. Air may also be received from a distribution system in the shop which distributes compressed air to the various machine sites. The air is provided to an air plenum below the extension table top and exits from the plenum via the multiplicity of orifices in the top of the table. A low surface frictional veneer on the table top adds to the effort reducing efficiency of the extension table.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1992Date of Patent: May 18, 1993Inventor: John Blasi

Patent number: 5211091Abstract: An apparatus for cutting pleated paper, and especially for filtration media for the automotive industry. Two tooth roller chains in parallel are supported above a support plate upon which pleated paper is placed. There is an opening in the plate through which the teeth of two sprockets supported beneath the plate may extend to mesh with the teeth of the corresponding roller chain. The teeth on both the chain and the sprocket are the same height as the pleated paper and when driven by an electric motor pulls the paper through the device separating each pleat. One pleat at a time is pushed through a slit in the table top at which point the pleat knuckle is sheared off by pneumatic operated cutter blade. A fiberoptics infrared scanner is used to monitor the amount of pleated material available. The number of pleats cut on any one run is controlled.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1992Date of Patent: May 18, 1993Assignee: Purolator Products CompanyInventor: Everett A. Cole

Patent number: 5111723Abstract: A single stroke punch apparatus includes positive removal by compressed air of workpiece slugs which adhere to the punch. A die plate has a series of bushing receiving features formed from two concentric diameters. The die plate has provision for introducing a flow of compressed air into each of the bushing receiving features. A support bushing is mounted in each of the bushing receiving features and has a surface for support of the workpiece which is elevated with respect to the die plate. A slug removal bushing is also mounted in the bushing receiving feature and is pressed into the wall of the support bushing opposite the workpiece supporting surface to form a seal. The wall of the bushing receiving feature, the support bushing, and the slug removal bushing define a passage for the compressed air such that the compressed air impinges upon the punch directly adjacent the end wall of the support bushing to positively remove the punch slug which is adhered to the punch.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1991Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Franz Andrusch, Siegfried Beerhalter, Wolfgang F. Patent number: 5072638Abstract: A web of paper, cardboard, foil or textile material is pulled against and between two rotary knives which sever the web longitudinally and form a slot as well as dust. Such dust is removed by a pneumatic mechanism having one or more nozzles which discharge one or more streams of compressed ionized air against the upper side of the web in the region of the slot, and a suction chamber disposed beneath the path for the web, extending across the slot beneath the nozzle or nozzles, and having one or more suction ports which enable the chamber to collect the particles of dust. The port or ports further enable the chamber to collect those fragments of the web which adhere to the separated sections of the web in the region of the slot between such sections.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: E C.H. Patent number: 5062334Abstract: There is provided a sweeper for cleaning the support surface of a machine for cutting sheet material and having a vacuum chamber disposed below said support surface to hold down the sheet material during cutting, and a carriage assembly, supported above said support surface for longitudinal and transverse movement relative to said support surface. The sweeper has a nozzle mounted on said carriage assembly and is adaptable for contacting the support surface, and includes a conduit in fluid communication to a vacuum generator. A filter is disposed in a housing intermediate said nozzle and the vacuum generator, and a valve is provided for by-passing vacuum to the vacuum chamber and opening vacuum to said sweeper for cleaning said support surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1990Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Inventors: Timothy R. Patent number: 5019028Abstract: Tublar workpieces are formed with perforations of desired size and/or shape by repeatedly piercing selected portions of the workpieces by needles, pins or analogous piercing tools. The tools can be stationary while the workpieces roll therealong, or the workpieces can rotate while coming into repeated engagement with one or more sets of orbiting tools. The frequency and the number of penetrations of tools into selected portions of the workpieces are selected with a view to heat the tools as a result of frictional engagement with the material of the workpieces, i.e., as a result of repeated penetration into and extraction from selected portions of a rotating or rotating and rolling and/or axially moving workpiece. This enhances the making of predictable perforations in tubular workpieces, especially workpieces which consist of a synthetic thermoplastic material, such as bobbins for the storage of textile yarns.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1988Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: Adalbert (Lorrach) EngelInventors: Adalbert Engel, Christoph Engel, Uta-Marie Engel

Patent number: 4997524Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for cutting off and guiding a strip cut from the edge of a paper web in a threading operation. The strip is released from a cylinder by blowing and is guided by pocket blowing so as to form a bag and is then cut off. The strip is conducted through an arrangement functioning as a draw-press, which pulls the strip against a cutting member of a cutting device in such a way that it is severed and the strip can immediately be transferred further.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1989Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Valmet-Ahlstrom Inc.Inventors: Matti Nieminen, Pentti Alatalo
