Abstract: A keyboard device and a musical sound emission method are provided. A top lid is formed into a hollow structure including a lower plate and an upper plate facing the lower plate. Since vibrating bodies are fixed to an inner surface of the lower plate, the vibrating bodies can cause the lower plate to vibrate and thereby emit musical sound generated through the vibration from an outer surface side of the lower plate to the outside. On the other hand, the musical sound emitted from an inner surface side of the lower plate is blocked by the upper plate, and it is thus possible to curb mutual cancelation of musical sound in opposite phases emitted from each of the inner surface and the outer surface of the lower plate. Therefore, it is possible to efficiently emit musical sound to the surroundings of the top lid.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device (2) for influencing the sound of an upright piano, comprising a housing (5) which is provided with at least one sound hole (7) on the side facing the keyboard of the piano. At least one plate-shaped sound deflector (11, 20, 21, 22) is provided inside the housing (5), adjacent to the sound hole (7), acting as an impediment to the sound waves in the direction of the sound hole (7) and extending the path of the sound waves in the direction of the sound hole (7). A warmer sound, especially for the base tones, can be obtained from the piano by extending the sound path in such a manner. Preferably, the inventive device is embodied as an add-on device which can be post-fitted to a piano.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for adjusting a sound volume of a grand piano.When a grand piano is played, it is desired to adjust its sound volume depending on the surrounding conditions such as in an apartment house, or at night or the like.The present invention has an object of obtaining an apparatus for adjusting the sound volume of a grand piano in which an adjustment can be made to a desired sound volume by a simple operation and which has a sufficient sound-insulating effect. It is characterized in that a lower opening portion of a case is covered by a sound-insulating board which has an opening and closing portion.

The lid completely covers the bottom of the piano case when latched in a closed position. In its closed position, the lower lid protects the soundboard from damage (such as during transportation of the piano) and mutes the piano's sound. The lower lid of the invention is designed so that, when released from its closed position and pivoted downward into an open position, it will reflect sound from the soundboard outward from the front of the piano. Preferably, the angular orientation of the lower lid in its open position is chosen to reinforce and focus the projection of sound within a desired frequency range (for example, midrange sounds) to a desired target region. Such optimal angular orientation can be determined experimentally.

Abstract: A sound reflector for use with a grand piano to reflect sound from the underside of the soundboard toward the rear side of the instrument, the reflector comprising a large panel of sound reflective material underlying the soundboard at an inclined angle with its uppermost side edges adjacent the undersurface of the front side wall of the instrument and with its lowermost side edge at floor level; the reflective panel may be planar or its sound reflecting surface may be convex in cross-section in one or more directions; brackets may be provided to detachably mount the panel to the front side wall of the case or the panel may be permanently attached to the case, as by means of hinges; and means may be provided to suspend the panel so that its lowermost side edge will clear the floor when the piano is moved.
