Patent number: 9378712Abstract: A drum beater pedal apparatus for driving a pedal driven drum beater with manual pressure from the heel comprises a pedal member, a frame, a spring, a sliding member, a chain and a drum beater. The pedal member is movably mounted on the frame such that it can be moved between a base position and an actuated position. In this regard, when manual pressure in the actuating direction is placed on the proximal end of the pedal member, the sliding member moves to its substantially horizontal position and causes the chain to move the drum beater to its actuated position. Conversely, when this manual pressure is removed, the spring moves the pedal member back to its base position, causing the sliding member to move to its substantially vertical position, resulting in the chain moving the drum beater 16 to its retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2014Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Inventor: Bob Owen

Publication number: 20140305277Abstract: For each key and without damping action of dampers deactivated by a damper pedal, loads imposed on a portion of the key acting on the damper are measured while the key is moved over one stroke in at least one of key-depressing and key-releasing directions, in association with a plurality of stroke positions in the one stroke of the key. For each key, a key-damper half region is identified on the basis of relationship between the individual stroke positions and the measured loads corresponding to the stroke positions. Then, on the basis of the key-damper half regions identified for the individual keys, a half point is determined separately for each of the keys, or a half point common to a group of a plurality of the keys is determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2014Publication date: October 16, 2014Applicant: YAMAHA CORPORATIONInventors: Yuji FUJIWARA, Yasuhiko OBA

Publication number: 20140305276Abstract: Each of Dampers provided for each of keys is controlled in response to both an operation of a damper pedal and an operation of the corresponding key. For each of the dampers and over one stroke of the pedal in at least one of depressing releasing directions of the pedal, load information indicative of loads imposed on a portion linked to the damper is acquired in association with individual stroke positions of the pedal. Then, for each of the dampers, a half pedal region is identified on the basis of relationship between the stroke positions and the loads corresponding to the stroke positions. The portion linked to the damper may be any suitable portion related to a damper lever moving in an up-down direction in interlocked relation to both of vertical movement of a lifting rail responsive to an operation of the pedal and an operation of the key.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2014Publication date: October 16, 2014Applicant: YAMAHA CORPORATIONInventors: Yuji FUJIWARA, Yasuhiko OBA

Patent number: 8324488Abstract: A lever 1 pivots within a certain stroke range by a player's depression of the lever 1. A coil spring 4 is displaceable within the entire stroke range of the lever 1 to produce a reaction force having a characteristic that the reaction force increases with an increase in the displacement. A dome-shaped rubber member 5 starts being displaced at some point in the stroke of the lever 1 to produce a reaction force having a characteristic that the rate of change in reaction force with respect to the displacement decreases in an area placed in the displacement. The characteristic is obtained by the dome-shaped rubber member 5 coming into contact with the lever 1 at some point in the stroke of the lever 1 to start being displaced by further depression of the lever 1 to buckle at some point in the displacement of the dome-shaped rubber member 5.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2010Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Yamaha CorporationInventors: Toshiyuki Iwamoto, Kenichi Nishida

Patent number: 5515759Abstract: A mechanism for hydraulically actuating a damper assembly in pianos. It includes first, second and third cylinder assemblies interconnected to permit a user to selectively play a piano or use a computer with a suitable interface. The pedal mechanism is coupled to the first cylinder assembly so that the first rod associated with the first piston head moves the hydraulic fluid into the second cylinder assembly which in turn pushes second rod out to release the damper head holding a piano string. Alternatively, the piano can be played with a computer with a solenoid interface that causes the hydraulic fluid inside the third cylinder assembly to go inside the second cylinder assembly or first cylinder assembly causing the same effect as if it was done by activating a pedal. Conduit members connect the different cylinders without causing any incompatibility or interference.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1994Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Inventor: Daniel Geoghegan

Patent number: 4041829Abstract: In a piano pedal assembly adapted to control the duration and amplitude of musical tones or notes generated by a piano, the individual pedals of the assembly when attached to the piano, are maintained in their normal position under pressure and adapted when depressed to pivot about a pin. The assembly is mounted on a support such as a base plate, and a pair of pedal mounting blocks having a cylindrical opening, for securing opposite sides of the pivot pin, are mounted within openings in the base plate. The pedal mounting blocks are formed from a low friction material such as Nylon or Teflon and function to provide and maintain precise registration of the individual pedals within the assembly. The piano pedal assembly utilizes fewer and less complex parts and components than prior art assemblies whereby the assembly time and fabrication cost of pedal assemblies are substantially reduced.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1975Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Inventors: Robert Ogden Robeson, Vincent Joseph Hart
