  • Patent number: 11688368
Abstract: A manual vibrato control device, system and processing arrangement are disclosed. A manual vibrato includes a rotatable shaft, a raised cam section on the shaft, first and second biased collars received on the shaft either side of the cam section, the bias of the first collar being rotationally opposite to the bias of the second collar such that as the shaft rotates in one direction, it receives a return force from the first collar but does not rotate the second collar, and vice versa. Also disclosed are processing techniques to take the rotational data from rotational sensors, preferably Hall Effect, on the shaft and generate pitch change instructions for a pitch modification device. The mapping is user controllable to produce desired effects and performance.

  • Patent number: 11120776
Abstract: A foldable stringed instrument, for example in the form of a travel guitar that folds mid-neck to assume a reduced profile is described. The mid-neck folding is accomplished in a symmetrical manner about a three-part hinge located in the neck to configure the travel guitar into a reduced profile. The bridge assembly can be translated longitudinally relative to the head of the guitar to allow sufficient de-tensioning of the guitar strings to enable an upper portion of the neck to be folded away from a lower portion of the neck and/or body to assume a reduced profile. To deploy the travel guitar for playing, the upper portion of the neck is unfolded into alignment with the lower portion of the neck and/or body, and the bridge assembly translated longitudinally relative to the head and locked in position to allow the guitar to be tuned for playing.

  • Patent number: 10559287
Abstract: An adjustable neck system for ease of action adjustment within a wide range of possible string heights and vibrating string lengths while not impeding on the vibrating area of the soundboard and adding minimal mass to the headblock assembly and allowing for significant rigidity to allow for greatly improved tuning stability is described. The system includes a neck joint utilizing a neck that pivots into a slightly mortised headblock with a floating, cantilevered fingerboard that does not contact the surface of the soundboard. The neck heel features extensive reinforcement in conjunction with headblock reinforcement to allow for increased torque on between the captive bolts and pivot points for greater rigidity and stability without the need for locking screws. By laminating the headblock and cantilevering the fingerboard, mass and soundboard contact area is not significantly greater than with traditional assemblies for minimal effect on weight balance and tone.

  • Patent number: 9412344
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing a high performance stringed instrument. In one embodiment, the stringed instrument comprises an electric guitar constructed entirely of sheet metal, with the body and neck permanently joined together to produce a one piece (unitary) style guitar construction. This method of construction results in improved overall consistency of the product. In particular, the construction utilizes a substantially homogenous material throughout the guitar and further includes a stronger, stiffer and straighter neck that allows for a more consistent sound than is possible using traditional manufacturing materials such as wood. Such a construction also offers improved sustain of string vibration, an attribute that is highly desirable to guitar players. The incorporation of a unique supporting structure into the headstock contributes to a unique warm timbre when played that has heretofore been unachievable in combination with improved sustain characteristics.
