Patent number: 7863508Abstract: A String Alignment Plate for stringed instruments to reduce the excess friction in that portion of the string in the head region, generated at the nut of the instrument as a string passes through a notch of the nut and then bends in order to align with the tuning pin or machine head. The additional friction is created at the point of the bend where the string rubs excessively against the nut. This friction impedes tuning and results in differential tension of the string on either side of the nut. The String Alignment Plate is affixed to the head of the instrument and keeps the portion of the string in the head area in-line or parallel with that portion of the same string as it extends from the bridge to the nut, thus removing the bend. Once the string reaches the String Alignment Plate, the string curves around the Peg on the String Alignment Plate to the tuning peg or machine head.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2009Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Inventor: Dennis Bishop

Patent number: 7692085Abstract: A device is disclosed for adjusting the tension of the strings of a string instrument, especially a guitar, preferably an electric guitar, or a bass, preferably an electric bass, said strings being secured at a first end to a winding mechanism and at a second end to another mount, said device having at least one motor, a gear connected to the motor and flexible shafts connected to the gear for transmission of a rotational movement generated by the combination of the motor and the gear to the winding mechanism whereby the device has fewer motors than there are strings on the string instrument. With this device it is possible to arrange a drive for automatic adjustment of the tension of the strings of the string instrument in a space-saving manner and in the smallest possible amount of space.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2005Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Tectus AnstaltInventor: Christopher Adams

Publication number: 20090211427Abstract: Provided is a string tuning mechanism that enables a musician to clamp and anchor a musical instrument string to a musical instrument tuning peg. The claimed subject matter enables the musician to put on and take off the strings of a stringed musical instrument easily and rapidly. The string attachment device also enables the installed musical instrument string to equalize to pitch faster than currently possible and enables a stringed musical instrument to remain in tune longer. The disclosed device is designed to fit easily against a tuning peg and to enable the musician to use the locking of the string to the peg technology without permanently changing the physical state of their musical instrument. Another purpose of the claimed subject matter is to provide a method and device that enables the musician to use the same strings he has always used, and not to have to buy special strings.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2008Publication date: August 27, 2009Inventors: Kenneth William Box, Thomas McGarrigle

Patent number: 7569759Abstract: The invention relates to a protective tuner cover for the tuning section of a stringed musical instrument, such as a guitar. The tuner cover is sized to enclose the instrument headstock, or a substantial portion thereof, and includes a section that encloses and protects the tuning keys and knobs of the musical instrument. When constructed as a unitary structure, the tuner cover can be slid onto the instrument headstock. When constructed from separable components, the tuning cover can be opened and closed over the headstock in a bivalve manner if hinged, or by appropriately spaced latching mechanisms if completely separable. The tuner cover can be constructed to enclose and protect one or two rows of tuning keys and knobs, depending on the type of musical instrument.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2008Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Inventors: Russell Pace, Deanne M.
