Abstract: A percussive device for a stringed instrument includes a support structure, an attachment component that attaches the support structure to the stringed instrument, one or more hammers attached to arms rotatably coupled to the support structure and one or more actuators rotatably coupled to the support structure. User activation of the one of the actuators causes a corresponding one of the hammers to make contact with a string of the stringed instrument. A rotational force device applies a rotational force to at least one of the hammer arms or actuators. The rotational force device includes a torsion or helical compression spring. The applied rotational force causes the hammer to be positioned not in contact with the string of the stringed instrument. The applied rotational force is overcome when an applicable force has been applied to the corresponding actuator by a user, thereby causing the at least one hammer to be positioned in contact with the corresponding string of the stringed instrument.

Abstract: A hand-held hammer for playing a guitar includes a handle, an arm and a head. The head has a head longitudinal axis and a striking surface that is generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the arm. The striking surface is curved and equal to or longer than the distance between the first and fourth string of a six-string guitar. The player holds the guitar, selects the string length by fretting one or more strings, grips the hammer by the handle and strikes the strings with the striking surface.

Abstract: An attachable accessory for a hand-held, stringed musical instrument, such as a guitar, the invention comprises a hammer arm with a hammer head at one end which pivots at the opposite end. Actuating rods, which are struck by the fingers, press the hammer arm downward causing the hammer head to strike the strings of the instrument. The apparatus is clamped to the bridge pins of the guitar or are otherwise removably attachable to the instrument. The instrument is playable in the conventional manner with the apparatus attached. A bias means returns the hammer arm to its initial position after displacement by the actuating rod.
