Woodwind Supports Patents (Class 84/385A)
  • Patent number: 5898116
Abstract: An improved plate assembly of woodwinds comprising a body being longitudinally provided with a plurality of tone holes is provided. Each of the tone holes is provided with a pair of posts at both sides. A copper shaft is pivotally mounted within the posts. A plate which may cover the tone hole is pivotally mounted onto the copper shaft. The lower portion of one of the posts is disposed with a resilient pin. The copper shaft is disposed with a projected pin shaft and a depressing key rod. The resilient pin is disposed such that the projected pin shaft is biased. When the depressing key rod is depressed, the copper shaft is rotated and the tone hole can be opened or closed by the plate to generate a special tone. The upper portion of the post is provided with a ball socket and both ends of the copper shaft are provided with a mounting hole respectively. One of the mounting hole of the pipe is provided with a groove.

  • Patent number: 5664758
Abstract: An extendable strut device supports a reed woodwind musical instrument, such as an oboe, clarinet, English horn or straight saxophone, to substantially relieve the weight on the musician's thumb and hand, thereby avoiding muscle fatigue and strain and repetitive motion injuries, without limiting the position, flexibility or maneuverability of the instrument and without inducing other unnatural or restrictive posture or feel requirements in the instrument. The strut device comprises an attachment component having a connection mechanism adapted to connect pivotally to the thumbrest without interfering with the conventional placement and position of the musician's thumb on the thumbrest, and an elongated monopod component having an upper end connected to the attachment component and having a lower opposite end adapted to contact the seating facility upon which the musician is seated while playing the instrument.

  • Patent number: 5553529
Abstract: A ring adapter assembly is releasably attachable to a thumbrest of a woodwind musical instrument, such as an oboe, clarinet, English horn or straight saxophone, to provide an attachment ring in those instances when the thumbrest of the instrument does not include a permanent attachment ring. The ring adapter assembly allows a support device to be attached to the musical instrument to relieve the weight on the thumb and hand of a musician playing the instrument. One embodiment of the ring adapter assembly is used with fixed position thumbrests and is adapted to be seated on a top surface of the thumbrest so that an attachment ring within the assembly faces away from the musical instrument. A top portion of the assembly may be moved up and down by an adjustment screw and includes a spring wire which extends around the thumbrest to connect the assembly to the thumbrest.

  • Patent number: 5215239
Abstract: A weight support harness, including separate portions disposed over each of the shoulders and beneath the arms of a musician, terminates in a pair of hooks at the front of the musician for supporting a saxophone or similar instrument. The harness is adjustable to comfortably accommodate right or left handed, as well as male or female, musicians. Either of the pair of hooks is capable of supporting the instrument weight to permit transferring the instrument from the front position to a side position during breaks or between musical sessions. A separate adjustable strap is connected to each of the harness portions and extends across the back shoulders of the musician to distribute some of the instrument support to the musician's back. In one embodiment, supplemental straps are employed to reduce strap contact with a female musician's breasts.

  • Patent number: 4926735
Abstract: A musical instrument stand which includes a plurality of mounting stations for holding various musical instruments which is rotatable to facilitate a musician changing instruments quickly and which is heated to maintain the temperature of all instruments at the normal operating temperature to improve and control tonal qualities. The instrument stand includes a base with a platform being generally circular and rotatably movable with rerspect to the base. A heat chamber is defined between the platform and the base to act as a reservoir for heated air. A heating device is adapted to heat air which is transported into the air chamber. Instrument support members are attachable with respect to mounting stations defined on the platform. Attachment of a support member biases a flap to an opened position to allow heated air to flow upwardly to contact the musical instrument for maintaining it at operating temperature.
