Patent number: 10526733Abstract: To ensure during the braiding of braiding cores, which have a complex braiding core geometry, for example a rectangular braiding core cross-section or one-sided cross-sectional changes, that the braiding threads are always correctly following the braiding core contour in terms of storage, a braiding ring is provided. The braiding ring is composed of a number of adjustable segments, each of which can be actuated individually and independently of the other segments by an actuator.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2017Date of Patent: January 7, 2020Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Florian Rapp, Fabian Rittershofer

Patent number: 5979288Abstract: A helical braider for constructing a triaxially braided tubular member in which the angle formed by primary fiber relative to the longitudinal axis of the tubular member can be controlled independently of the corresponding angles formed by the remaining fibers. The helical braider includes a winder that applies a primary fiber at a selected winding rate and a braider that applies two helical fibers at a selected spin rate. The winder can include a winder motor and a winding station rotatable around the mandrel, while the braider can include a braider motor and a braiding station independently rotatable around the mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Fiberspar Spoolable Products, Inc.Inventors: James L. Patent number: 5337647Abstract: An apparatus for braiding a three dimensional form from individual fibers. The fiber is supplied on a plurality of fiber carriers situated in slots in track members forming a carrier plane at the base of the machine. The carriers are moved in a linear manner with the tracks and are also moved transverse to the track in columns formed by the slots in the tracks. Automatic elements are provided to limit the travel of the tracks and the columns to one, two or three discreet steps and to return the tracks and carriers to their original positions at the end of a braiding cycle. Automatic elements are provided to take up the braided form as it is fabricated. Elements are also provided for compacting the braided form periodically during the braiding process.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Robert M. Patent number: 4898067Abstract: Combing apparatus for a braiding machine or the like, comprising a plurality of smooth, flexible lines mounted on one side of the fibers in the area between the braiding machine and the braid point. The lines are fixed at the end near the braiding machine and are attached at the opposite end to a flexible and resilient member, such as a spring or rubber band. A plurality of pusher members are mounted on the one side of the fibers in alignment with the lines, and a plurality of gripper members are mounted on the opposite side of the fibers in alignment with the lines and pusher members. The pusher members engage the lines in an area near the braiding machine so as to push them between the fibers. The gripper members extend through the fibers to grip the lines, pull them through the fibers and then pull the lines toward the braid point to separate and comb the fibers in a uniform manner.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1989Date of Patent: February 6, 1990Assignee: Atlantic Research CorporationInventors: Clint H. Patent number: 4785709Abstract: This invention relates to a braider having a braid ring about which yarns passing from the yarn packages on the carrier to the article being braided traverse or change direction about the braid ring, vibrators being mounted on the ring to vibrate the ring, thereby allowing yarns of high surface friction to pass over the ring thereby reducing the incidence of yarn breakages during braiding.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1988Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Albany Research (UK) LimitedInventor: Glenn A.
