    Abstract: The invention features a self-contained enclosure-plus-enclosed contexture and the implementation thereof in a multi-phase launching system, according to which the waterborne first phase entails naturally (buoyantly) induced motion, and at least the airborne second phase entails artificially (technologically) induced motion. Typical inventive practice provides a launch canister which is exteriorly configured to be hydrodynamically efficient while moving buoyantly upward in response to hydrostatic pressure, and which has a chamber for stowing an air vehicle. The inventive vehicle-stowing canister is released underwater so as to be buoyantly propelled upward and into the air, at which time the air vehicle is mechanistically propelled (e.g., boosted), in response to which the canister becomes disjointed cooperatively with the uncoupling of the air vehicle from the canister. The air vehicle continues to propulsively ascend, the canister's nose cone and main body gravitationally falling to the water below.

    Abstract: Three extender assemblies are mounted on the torpedo-mounted dispenser (TMD) of a torpedo to provide shock hardening of the TMD. In a first embodiment, the extender assemblies consist of short sections of metal tubes mounted on inner plate portions. The inner plate portions are bent to conform to the TMD radius and attach to the TMD such that the metal tubes are aligned longitudinally on the TMD. Outer plates are attached to the tubes and are in contact with the dolly used to support the torpedo and TMD. When the dolly the TMD is subjected to a shock load, the tubes deform to take up shock loads applied to the TMD through the dolly. To attach the assemblies to the TMD, slots on each inner plate are positioned over hooks on the outside surface of the TMD. The hooks are part of the TMD assembly and serve to secure o-ring or spring retainers for the cable within the TMD. An eye bolt fits over the hook and is bolted to a bent tab on the inner plate.

    Abstract: A pneumatic spear gun (11) comprising a barrel (27) having an open end (33) through which a shaft (15) of a spear (13) can be received. A first piston (35) is slidingly and sealingly received in the barrel (27) for movement towards and away from a retracted position. A retaining means (41) is provided for releasably retaining the piston (35) in the retracted position. A source of compressible fluid such as air is contained in a reservoir (59) and is arranged to undergo compression upon movement of the piston (35) into the retracted position and to propel the piston along the barrel (27) from the retracted position upon release of the piston thereby to propel the spear (13). A control means is provided for selectively increasing the pressure of the compressible fluid for varying the propulsive force applied to the piston (35). The control means includes a cylinder (43) forming part of the resevoir (59) and having a second piston (45) slidingly and sealingly mounted therein.
