Fluid Operated Patents (Class 91/388)
  • Patent number: 4094229
Abstract: Two fluid passages are connected through flow restrictors to a fluid supply. Downstream of the restrictors the fluid supply has a drooping pressure-load characteristic. Venting means for the fluid passages comprises vent openings therein downstream of the restrictors and variable position obstructor means cooperating with vent openings to vary venting and thereby vary fluid pressures in the fluid passages. This forms a mechanical to fluidic translator. Pressures at the translator's outputs are a function of the obstructor's position. This translator forms the transmitter of a servo or remote control or indicator system.Fluid conduits connect these pressure outputs to a fluid to mechanical translator comprising a double acting piston moving in a cylinder whose opposite ends are connected to the fluid conduits. The piston and cylinder form the responder of the system, which may be adjacent the mechanical to fluidic translator and form part of the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4091716
Abstract: Pressurized motive fluid flow passes through a single fluidic vortex orifice to opposite chambers of a differential area, double acting, linear servo-cylinder. While shifting in one direction the vortex orifice severely restricts the flow to the fluid chamber of the motor which is contracting in size so as to permit rapid movement of the piston in that direction, and whenever the piston is moving in an opposite direction the vortex orifice allows substantially unrestricted fluid flow to the same chamber which is now expanding in size, so that the piston can shift rapidly in this opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4071108
Abstract: An articulated vehicle has a pair of hydraulic steering cylinders for causing angular motion of a forward vehicle portion relative to its rearward portion under the control of a steering control valve which is actuated from a steering wheel via a linkage system. Arranged between the steering cylinders and the steering control valve are a pair of flow dividers which upon actuation of the steering cylinders operate to selectively deliver part of the hydraulic fluid drained therefrom to the opposed fluid chambers of a follow-up cylinder having its piston rod coupled to the linkage system. The follow-up cylinder when thus actuated causes the linkage system to return the steering control valve to neutral. In an alternate embodiment of the invention the flow dividers are replaced by hydraulic motors which on selective actuation drive respective pumps communicating with the fluid chambers of the follow-up cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4044651
Abstract: A function generator is provided which establishes an output signal according to a functional relationship determined by the preformed contour of an easily precut cam member. The function generator includes a variable gain controller section coupled to a proximity sensing motion balance servomechanism which varies the gain of the controller according to the sensed proximity of the servomechanism to the edge of the cam member without physical contact therewith. The cam member's position is in turn determined by an input signal which may be related to the controller input signals or may be an independent signal from a remote source. The gain and consequently the output of the controller is varied according to the functional relationship determined by the precut contour of the cam member.

  • Patent number: 4037619
Abstract: The specification describes a three-point regulator, for example of the pneumatic type, in the case of which with a drop and a rise in the measurement value of the regulation quantity after overcoming an operating distance a respective switch is operated. One switch is moved or turned by a servo-member (motor) in one direction and the other switch is moved or turned by the servo-member in the other direction. A feedback is provided which acts on both switches in such a manner that the operating distance is increased and accordingly the switched-on switch is switched off.

  • Patent number: 3996839
Abstract: The positioning of the piston rod of a double acting hydraulic cylinder is accurately controlled by means of applying hydraulic pressure, created by the controlled displacement of a fluid independent from the primary fluid system, against the piston of a servo-cylinder which controls the servo-valve for the double acting cylinder. As the piston rod of the double acting cylinder moves, the pressure on the servo-cylinder is relieved and the servo-cylinder is returned to a balanced condition, restoring the neutral position of the servo-valve. In another embodiment the application of pressure to a fluid system independent from the primary fluid system is sensed by an electro-hydraulic transducer and a proportional electric signal is produced for controlling the electro-hydraulic servo-valve of the double acting cylinder. As the piston rod of the double acting cylinder moves, fluid is displaced, relieving the sensed pressure and returning the servo-valve to a neutral position at a new setting of the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 3963127
Abstract: In hydraulically operated loading cranes, particularly loading cranes comprising multiple loading arms, a blocking device in the form of a return piston arranged, upon occurrence of an excessive pressure in the master cylinder, to prevent operation of piston-and-cylinder units actuating the loading arms in a direction away from the loading crane post but permit operation in the reverse direction, i.e. movement of the loading arms towards the post. The blocking device thus ensures that the moment of loading on the crane arms never reaches a value involving risks that the crane will tip over.

  • Patent number: 3952825
Abstract: A wheeled vehicle which has two members connected by an upright joint has a pair of hydraulic steering jacks coupled between the members on opposite sides of the joint, and the vehicle is steered by normally causing both jacks to pivot the members under the control of a steering wheel. The hydraulic steering system utilizes a constant displacement pump driven by the vehicle engine, and includes a follow-up means which senses the pivoting movement and deactivates the jacks when turning of the steering wheel ceases, so the operator may steer the vehicle by manipulating the wheel in a conventional manner. Selector valve means in the hydraulic system functions to automatically direct all or nearly all of the fluid to one jack if pump output is insufficient to drive both jacks as fast as is called for by the operator's rotation of the steering wheel.
