  • Patent number: 8578837
Abstract: The pressure in the downstream side of a pneumatic cylinder's piston (1g) is allowed to exhaust. At a certain point, the downstream exhaust is blocked, causing the pressure to rise against the downstream side of the piston. A valve (5) opens when the downstream chamber has reached its maximum pressure. The output of valve (5) opens a second valve (3). Valve (3) rapidly exhausts the remaining air on the downstream side of the piston (1p). With no air on the downstream side of piston (1p), piston (1p) stops and does not bounce back. Changing the volume of inactive regions (1m) or (1n) sets the stopping point to coincide with the end of stroke of piston (1p). A check valve (4) and orifice (6a) allow the air in the pilot port in valve (3) to slowly bleed out, resetting valve (3) for the next cycle.

  • Patent number: 7717025
Abstract: A fluid actuator with fluid limit valves (550, 551) and adjustable mechanical limits enables the construction of fluid linkages which are able to completely replace mechanical linkages. In a fluid circuit comprising of two or more fluid actuators, the pistons (102) of the fluid actuators can become uncorrelated when fluid leakage occurs. At the piston (102) extension and retraction limits, fluid limit valves (550, 551) open. The open fluid limit valves (550, 551) allow fluid to bypass pistons (102) and/or allow fluid from an external source to compensate the fluid leakage. The fluid bypassing pistons (102) at their extension or retraction limit and/or externally supplied fluid forces the uncorrelated pistons (102) to reach their extension or retraction limit as well. The fluid actuator with adjustable mechanical limits have one or more additional pistons (686, 688), which have an adjustable separation from the main piston (102) or end of cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6776356
Abstract: A hydraulic actuator is provided for controlling relative movement between first and second structures between which the actuator is mounted, for example between a boom and the base frame of an agricultural sprayer, while providing some resilience in the form of suspension. The actuator comprises a piston cylinder having a floating cushion piston supported within the cylinder end to support the piston within the cylinder in a retracted position at a prescribed spacing from the cylinder end. The piston can thus be deflected from the retracted position in either direction using a pressure relief mechanism so as to provide some flexibility to the actuator to accommodate the varying forces between the pair of relatively movable structures between which the actuator is mounted. The cushion piston requires no additional electrical switches or controllers and can be part of the hydraulic circuitry of the actuator so as to provide a simple, low cost actuator with integral suspension.

  • Patent number: 6575186
Abstract: Described is a system designed to control the slit valve used to isolate chambers in cluster tools used in integrated circuit (IC) fabrication. This method changes the slit valve door actuator pneumatic pressure and movement during the closing sequence. As the door nears the fully closed position, its speed is reduced. This results in a soft touch landing or seating of the door and reduces the number of particles generated over systems incorporating higher pressure in the door closure. Once the door is seated in a fully closed position, higher pressure is applied to maintain a tight seal between chambers. By reducing the particles generated, the overall IC yield for both production and test wafer lots will improve. Reducing wear on the door and door seat, fewer parts such as the door, door seat and slit valve O-ring are consumed, and both scheduled and unscheduled maitenance times are shortened.

Abstract: A lifter automatically adapts to pick up different style residential refuse collection carts. An upper movable clamp bar cooperates with a finger support bar to grab a smooth-sided cart with a single upper lifting lip. A hinged saddle and hinged sliding hook lifts carts having a pair of opposing engagement surfaces (e.g., bars). Hinged members are automatically pivoted into retracted positions during presentation of smooth sided carts, but are otherwise maintained in place for engaging other type carts. The lifter has a relatively short face plate for size and weight advantages, obtained by alternate extension/retraction of the hinged sliding hook during a lift cycle. Rollers on the extending face plate prevent cart scarring. Adjustment for different height carts is provided by a vertical lift assembly which uses a hydraulic sequencing valve to first raise the lifter for engaging the cart and then to cycle through a dumping process.

  • Patent number: 5706713
Abstract: A decelerating air circuit having an air cylinder is disclosed. The decelerating air circuit includes a driving solenoid valve having an advance mode and a withdrawal mode. A decelerating solenoid valve having a high speed mode and a low speed mode has an outlet port connected to the decelerating solenoid valve. A constant speed flow control valve is attached to a low speed port of the decelerating solenoid valve. Limit switches are located respectively at an advance end and a withdrawal end of a piston rod of the air cylinder. Decelerating sensors are located respectively between the limit switches. The piston rod advances past a point of a decelerating sensor, triggers the sensor, and causes the decelerating solenoid valve's operating mode to change from a high speed mode to a low speed mode. The change in mode is accomplished by outgoing air being introduced so that it passes through the flow control valve thereby reducing the speed of the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 5546847
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder snubbing arrangement includes a pilot operated control valve having a predetermined snubbing position at which flow exhausted from a hydraulic cylinder actuating chamber must pass through a plurality of flow restricting orifices in a valve spool when the hydraulic cylinder is retracted to a predetermined position. The valve spool is shifted to the snubbing position automatically by reducing the fluid pressure in a pilot chamber at the end of the valve spool to a predetermined level so that a snubber spring device resiliently moves the spool from a lower or float position. By forcing the fluid to pass through the restricted flow path created by the orifices, the gravity induced velocity of the hydraulic cylinder is greatly reduced as the hydraulic cylinder approaches its end of stroke position.

  • Patent number: 5072648
Abstract: A control system for a fluid operated jack reduces the speed of retraction of a piston rod of the jack to an acceptable rate during a preselected range of operation by adding pressurized fluid flow to the fluid being exhausted from the jack through a restrictor valve to the reservoir. This reduction in speed reduces the potential for damage to the jack and associated componentry without sacrificing efficiency of operation. An implement controller causes fluid flow from a fluid source to be combined with the flow of fluid being exhausted from the jack in response to receiving a position signal from a implement position sensor and subsequent to the implement controller commanding the shifting of a control valve to a position at which fluid flow is passed from the fluid operated jack to the reservoir. The control system is particularly suitable for use on an automatic guided vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5024635
Abstract: A hydraulic ram unit for a transmission of the toroidal-race, rolling-traction type. The ram is connected to the rollers of the transmission so that the position of the ram within its stroke is related to the angular setting of the rollers and so to the transmitted ratio. The ram pistons move within cylinders the inlet and outlet ports of which are located in the cylinder end walls, with the outlet ports axially protruding of the inlet ports. If a piston overshoots its normal stroke it tends first to restrict flow through the outlet port and then to contact and obstruct it, so creating firstly hydraulic and then contact forces to resist further overshoot, without substantially restricting the inlet port. Novel construction for the ram itself, and for the ram cylinders and casing are also described.
