  • Patent number: 4909520
Abstract: A shaft or piston seal for preventing unidirection fluid flow between two concentric mating members has an annular body in the form of a ring-like member with a polygonal profile in right cross section having innermost and outermost radial portions. One of the innermost and outermost radial portions at one end of the body defines a hinge surface and the other of the innermost and outermost radial portions at a medial section of said body defines a sealing surface. The other end of said body defines a non-contact stabilizing section. The sealing surface is in the form of a sealing band which contacts one of the mating members, the hinge surface seated in the other mating member. The non-contact stabilizing member flexes and provides a counterforce for urging the sealing band against the one mating member.

  • Patent number: 4846440
Abstract: There is disclosed herein several gas resupply valves for replenishment of lost gas in gas lasers in general and argon ion lasers in particular. The first embodiment uses a valve which controls flow of gas into a metering volume. The metering volume has an aperture therein which is microscopically small and which has a diffusion constant for gas moving through the aperture which is less than the time the valve is held open. The second embodiment uses the same general structure, but separates the soft sealing member of the valve from the solenoid core which moves to open and close the valve. The soft sealing member is attached to the valve body and supported above a valve seat surrounding the opening of the metering volume. The third embodiment uses a thin diaphragm which overlies a flat surface of the valve body in which are formed an input port and an output port. A solenoid applies pressure against the diaphragm to cause it to flatten against the flat surface thereby sealing the valve.

  • Patent number: 4701113
Abstract: In the European patent application publication EP OS No. 0 102 441 a high pressure pump is shown which uses tapered rings (disc spring derivatives) which are clamped together as a pump chamber. The clamping rings required cutting into sections which is expensive and time consuming. The present discoverings now show that the friction at compression of the coned rings was very large. The present invention now discovers that radially flexible ring portions should be provided to the coned ring portions in order to eliminate the friction and to reduce the time and cost of the production of the pump arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4664016
Abstract: A brake booster of positive pressure type includes a valve mechanism to which a positive pressure such as compressed air from a source located externally of a shell is fed for switching a flow path, through a conduit disposed within a constant pressure chamber disposed forwardly of a power piston and a supply passage which is formed in a valve body. The supply passage according to the invention comprised a radial passage which extends radially outward through the valve body from a shank portion thereof, and an axial passage which communicates with the radial passage, which an opening of the radial passage into the peripheral surface of the valve body being closed by a seal member which may be formed of an elastic material such as rubber. The seal member is covered by part of the power piston.
