  • Patent number: 8225812
Abstract: A safety device for a gas distribution system includes a valve body, an upper casing attached to the valve body, the upper casing housing two springs. The two springs are co-axially located and separated by a casting tube. Further, the two springs are attached to a movable diaphragm that is exposed to gas system pressure. A snap ring flange is also attached to the valve body, the snap ring flange being used to secure the safety device to a main regulator in the gas distribution system. The valve body also includes a cam mounted within the valve body. A limit switch is directly connected to the cam such that the limit switch moves directly in response to movement of the diaphragm. Additionally, a reset pin extends from the valve body and interacts with the cam such that the cam may be reset from a closed position to an open position by moving the reset pin.

  • Patent number: 8104397
Abstract: A diaphragm for use in a gas meter that includes an expansion section having a series of convolutions. During repeated use of the diaphragm, the expansion section flexes to allow the center section of the diaphragm and the attached diaphragm disk to move between a retracted position and extended position. The convolutions formed in the expansion section include a series of curved peaks and curved troughs joined by web sections. The multiple convolutions in the expansion section allows for more consistent and repeatable movement and volume displacement of the diaphragm between the extended and retracted positions. The action of the convolutions also contributes to extended life by eliminating wrinkling of the diaphragm material.

  • Patent number: 7258059
Abstract: pressure mediator comprising a base body having a membrane bed, wherein said base body has a first material with a first thermal expansion coefficient, in addition to a separating membrane having a second material with a second thermal expansion coefficient that is smaller than the first thermal expansion coefficient The separating membrane is fixed to the base body by its edge area in such a way that the membrane bed is covered by the separating membrane, and the separating membrane also has a relief that is formed by embossing against the membrane bed after the separating membrane was fixed to the base body. Embossing of the membrane relief is carried out at a temperature below critical temperature of less than approximately 10° C. This makes it possible to obtain a constant membrane characteristic line at low temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5662142
Abstract: A circular valve flapper for an unidirectional gas flow system, such as a breathing system. It has a central support an edge seal adapted to bear against a valve seat to stop the flow, and retract from the valve seat to permit flow. The flapper includes four concentric annular bands, the first being continuous with the support. The first and third bands are readily deflectable, and the second and fourth bands are relatively stiff. One, and preferably both, of the first and third bands are rolling diaphragms. The readily deflectibility of the first and third bands results in a substantial axial deflection of the edge seal, and a reduction of low frequency noise.

  • Patent number: 5335584
Abstract: The diaphragm has an outer flange and an inner portion which is deflectable relative thereto, with the inner portion having a lone, primary annular corrugation connecting a center of the inner portion to the outer flange and which, when viewed in cross section, has the general shape of one full cosine wave. A plurality of radially disposed waves present ridges to the high pressure side of the diaphragm, with each fairing in amplitude from a maximum generally midway of the diaphragm radius to zero generally at the center and at the outer flange. Each of the radial waves is arithmetically added to the primary wave so as to be integral therewith and has the general shape of one full cosine wave when viewed in cross-section both along and normal to the length of the ridge. In one embodiment, similarly shaped annular corrugations are added onto the primary corrugation as secondary annular waveforms so as to provide the diaphragm with greater sensitivity and longer deflection (stroke) capabilities.

  • Patent number: 4852466
Abstract: Floating the diaphragm portion of a diaphragm sensor in the pressurizing fluid frees the diaphragm from exterior housing forces, and makes overall manufacture and replacement inexpensive. A diaphragm can be protected from exterior stress by interspersing a channel between the diaphragm edge and the closure and support structure of an enclosing housing. By extending the channel and incorporating an adequate seal, the diaphragm structure may be made replaceable. The replaceable diaphragm further allows use of a smaller amount of costly materials, and makes repair less costly.

  • Patent number: 4846440
Abstract: There is disclosed herein several gas resupply valves for replenishment of lost gas in gas lasers in general and argon ion lasers in particular. The first embodiment uses a valve which controls flow of gas into a metering volume. The metering volume has an aperture therein which is microscopically small and which has a diffusion constant for gas moving through the aperture which is less than the time the valve is held open. The second embodiment uses the same general structure, but separates the soft sealing member of the valve from the solenoid core which moves to open and close the valve. The soft sealing member is attached to the valve body and supported above a valve seat surrounding the opening of the metering volume. The third embodiment uses a thin diaphragm which overlies a flat surface of the valve body in which are formed an input port and an output port. A solenoid applies pressure against the diaphragm to cause it to flatten against the flat surface thereby sealing the valve.

  • Patent number: 4728085
Abstract: A flexible diaphragm-like element that serves as a partition between the two chambers of a damping mechanism of a resilient motor mount. These chambers are filled with damping fluid, and their volume can be varied as a function of the springing movements of the resilient mounting elements, with the damping action deriving from the throttled transfer of the fluid from one chamber into the other. To prevent noise from being produced, the diaphragm-like element is secured in such a way that it has freedom of movement. This freedom of movement is set in the diaphragm-like element itself by dividing the latter into three concentrically disposed and interconnected ringshaped zones, namely a radially inner zone, a central zone, and a radially outer zone, with the thickness of the central zone being considerably less than the thickness of the inner and outer zones.
