Abstract: Exemplary pistons and methods of making the same are disclosed. An exemplary piston may include a crown defining a combustion bowl and a ring land extending circumferentially around the combustion bowl. Exemplary pistons may further include a skirt supporting the crown. The skirt may include a pair of pin bosses defining a pin bore configured to receive a piston pin, and two opposing skirt supports defining surfaces configured to slide along a cylinder bore surface. The skirt supports each define a different radial stiffness.

Abstract: An injection-molded piston for an aerosol container has a face portion for contacting and exerting pressure on material to be dispensed, and a thin, flexible skirt depending axially from and circumscribing the face portion for forming an effective seal against the inside wall of the container. The outer wall of the skirt is continuous, while the circumference of the inner wall has alternating areas of constant thickness along said areas and areas of minimum thickness, the curved portions forming with the outer wall a plurality of sections, the thickness and circumferential extent of each of which decrease axially along the skirt toward its distal end. The piston includes a depending extension on the skirt which aids sealing.

Abstract: A pneumatic pressure actuator including a cylinder assemblage having a pair of metallic cylinder heads and a fiberglass cylinder casing held together by a plurality of tie bolts and nuts. A piston and piston rod reciprocally movable within the cylinder assemblage and including a greased nylon cushion ring and polyurethane wiper ring for reducing frictional wear between the relatively movable surfaces.
