Abstract: A shaft extending along a longitudinal axis has fluid channels that increase and decrease pressure in chambers formed between the interior ends of curved pistons and adjacent closed ends of curved chambers within which the pistons reciprocate as the chamber pressure increases and decreases. The chambers and pistons are in separate cylinder block segments extending outward from opposing sides of the shaft. Each segment may have two sides extending along radial planes and joined by a curved outer surface. Pistons may be provided in pairs and have an interior piston end of each piston in a different cavity in different segments. Exterior ends of each piston in a pair of pistons are connected to a piston connector that extends inwardly from a housing so the housing rotates with the pistons.

Abstract: An extensible mechanism, in which a first hydraulic cylinder and piston has a fixed reference for movement in an extension direction and also in a retraction direction. A second hydraulic cylinder and piston is moveable in both of these directions. Hydraulic fluid actuates the first and second hydraulic units in series, whereby actuation in the extension direction sequentially moves the first and second hydraulic piston and actuation in the retraction direction reverses the sequential order of movement of the two hydraulic pistons.
Abstract: A one moving part, bi-directional rotary displacement mechanism for conveying rotational movement about an axis to movable members in flight vehicles. In consists of an enclosure having bi-directional rotation capability, encapsulating a vane with bi-directional ducts venting from its load bearing surfaces. The vane is affixed to a bi-directionally ducted shaft, having bi-direcitonal rotation capability, extending through the center and outside of the enclosure. A conically shaped, sealed, positive stop, with load bearing surfaces, eminating from the inside radius of the housing, points toward the horizontal axis, supports the shaft and facilitates axial rotation. The vane has a radius concentric with the inside radius of the enclosure and allows sealed bi-directional rotary movement between the two surfaces. Two sealed cavities exist between the load bearing surfaces of the vane and the positive stop. Pressure to and from the cavities flows through the joined vane and shaft ducting.
Abstract: Conventional piston-cylinder hydraulic actuators require external pressure sources. The hydraulic actuator disclosed utilizes the centrifugal head developed in its chambers. The piston (36) is attached to shaft extension (24) which is splined to the actuator cylinder (20). The cylinder (20) rotates with the shaft (16) to develop a centrifugal fluid head which is selectively directed from the outlet port (40a, 40b) of a contracting chamber through a servo valve (46) to the return passageway (46b, 46a) of an expanding chamber to axially displace piston (36) and shaft (16). An accumulator in the fluid circuit retains fluid displaced from the cylinder (20).
Abstract: A multiple stage telescoping cylinder assembly, which provides full stage selection capability without the need for external hoses or reels, comprises a base; an inner cylinder attached at its rearward end to the base and first and second stage cylinders of successively greater diameter mounted on the inner cylinder in telescoping relationship for extension during their forward strokes and retraction during their rearward strokes, the first and second stage cylinders each having an extend facing surface relatively adjacent its forward end for fluid pressure to contact to effect extension thereof and a retract facing surface relatively adjacent its rearward end for fluid pressure to contact to effect retraction thereof; and plural fluid passages for directing fluid under pressure from the rearward end of the inner cylinder forwardly through the interior of the inner cylinder and then into contact with respective ones of the facing surfaces for selective extension and retraction of the first and second stage cy
