  • Patent number: 5403164
Abstract: A passive compressor is disclosed which includes a free piston or a flexible membrane whose movement is controlled by pressure variations in a main chamber. The pressure in the main chamber changes according to the pressure in the motor crankcase, as the main chamber is coupled to the crankcase by a crankcase transfer passage duct.As the free piston or flexible membrane moves towards the main chamber, it causes a pressure decrease in the air chamber which subsequently admits external air through an inlet valve. When the free piston or the flexible membrane moves in the direction of the air chamber, the increased pressure on the piston or membrane forces the external air into the motor cylinder, through an air transfer passage duct, and towards a port on the cylinder that is opened due to the position of the motor piston. The inlet valve prevents the loss of pressure in the air chamber. Alternatively, the main chamber may be directly attached to the motor crankcase.

  • Patent number: 4719938
Abstract: The pressure relief valve is debris resistant, self-cleaning, and self-actuating in a cryopump. It includes an o-ring carried by a valve member within a valve cylinder. In opening, the valve member moves away from an end port to open vent ports in the side of the valve cylinder while withdrawing the o-ring to a debris free and protected region of the valve. As the valve member is moved into the closed position in response to an atmospherical pressure differential, a wiper ring cleans debris from the inner surface of the valve cylinder. A taper is provided on the inner surface of the cylinder to release compression on the vacuum sealing o-ring upon opening and to compress the o-ring as the valve member moves to the closed position. The wiper ring is expansible in order to provide a wiping action along the entire taper and prevent debris from reaching the o-ring. The end of the valve cylinder opposite to the end port serves as a shock absorber as the valve is opened.

  • Patent number: 4627793
Abstract: A motor-driven radial plunger pump has an outer housing enclosing a motor section and a pump section drivingly connected thereto. The motor section has a motor housing cooperating with the outer housing to define a fluid passage having a fluid inlet adjacent to a part of the motor housing in which a brush unit is disposed. The fluid passage contains a filter element and has a recess disposed upstream thereof and adjacent to motor magnets so that magnetic particles contained in the fluid flow are magnetically adhered to and deposited on the bottom of the recess. The pump section has a rotor with radial plungers slidably disposed in cylinder bores in the rotor. The cylinder bores have radially inner end successively communicated with a suction passage communicated with the fluid passage between the outer and motor housings through feed holes formed in a coupling disc plate drivingly connecting the motor with the rotor.

Abstract: A hermetically sealed, creep acting pressure switch has a sensor assembly comprising a bulged metallic membrane welded between a port fitting and a support. A switch assembly, attached to the sensor assembly, includes a housing which has a switch chamber in which, in one embodiment, a pair of stationary contacts are mounted. A piston having a force receiving surface at one end is biased into engagement with the membrane with an adjustable calibrated force. An electrically conductive contact bridge is mounted on and is movable with the piston. The switch can be normally open or normally closed depending on which side of the contact bridge the stationary contacts are mounted. In an alternate embodiment a miniature switch is mounted in the switch chamber and is adapted to be actuated by the piston.

  • Patent number: 4598630
Abstract: A double action slurry pump is provided having a shelf-flushing piston assembly mounted in a mating cylinder. The piston assembly includes a first piston having a peripheral sealing means and a reciprocating piston rod for driving the first piston. Second and third power pistons mounted adjacent opposite sides of the first piston include sealing discs and form respective first and second chambers with the first piston and the adjacent cylinder wall. The second and third power pistons serve to pump the slurry on the sides opposite the flushing fluid chambers. Each of the pumping pistons includes hollow carriers that cooperate with shoulders fixed to the piston rod to provide limited lost motion movement. The resulting lost motion serves to vary the size of the first and second chambers. During the stroke of the piston assembly in one direction, feed lines in the piston rod provide flushing fluid to the expanding second chamber.
