Abstract: A vacuum brake power booster is described wherein the return movement of a valve piston actuating a control valve is limited by a U-shaped element (17) slidable into a control housing (11). In order to improve the ventilation of the working chamber of the brake power booster initiated on actuation and to shorten the booster's response time, exit areas (42, 43, 44, 45) of ventilation ducts (38, 39, 40, 41) permitting an air flow into the working chamber (3) are formed radially outwardly of an area in the control housing (11) between the arms of the U-shaped element (17), the exit areas being confined by the outside walls (34, 35, 36, 37, 46, 47, 48, 49) of air evacuation ducts (28, 29, 30, 31) interconnecting the working chamber (3) and a vacuum chamber(4).

  • Patent number: 5207142
Abstract: A diaphragm for a brake booster having an annular inner bead with first and second radial surfaces separated by an apex. The second radial surface has a plurality of indentations that extend from the apex. In response to a positive pressure differential created by vacuum in a first chamber and air in a second chamber, an output force is developed to effect a brake application corresponding to an input force. This positive pressure differential act on the annular bead to urge said first radial face into engagement with a wall to prevent communication between the first and second chambers during a brake application. In the absence of the presence of vacuum in the first chamber, the input force acts on the wall to develop an operational pressure in the first chamber to develop a negative pressure differential between the first and second chambers.

Abstract: Working pistons, in particular those of brake boosters, have to tolerate a considerable number of changes in stress and great forces acting on the piston. Simultaneously, it is an object to construct the pistons as light-weight as possible. Due to the considerable forces in the axial direction, it is imperative for the piston to be well secured on the guiding axis. On the other hand, the central guide's projection securing the piston in the axial direction can cause local stresses on the piston and, thus, fatigue in the material which implies a premature failure of the piston. It is an object of this invention to improve the central circumference of the piston no longer is rigidly clamped into the central guide, but rather in that the inner end and the support are designed so as to enable a swivelling motion of the piston plate without local bending stress, thereby the life of the piston being considerably prolonged.

Abstract: A backpack agricultural sprayer has a pressure vessel mounted within a container and connected to a high pressure piston pump to force liquid into the pressure vessel from which it may be discharged for spraying. Leakage of liquid past the sprayer pump is contained by a leak-proof diaphragm which defines an agitation chamber connected by a conduit to the interior of the sprayer container. The diaphragm and piston are connected to be operated together to provide two separate but simultaneously acting pumps. The piston pump pressurizes the pressure vessel, and the diaphragm pump forces liquid back and forth between the container and diaphragm chamber to agitate contents of the container. An unique piston skirt is clamped by a single bolt between a skirt retainer and a piston body to provide a unitary assembly of diaphragm, piston body, skirt and skirt retainer. The skirt is resiliently urged outwardly to improve sealing and compensate for wear.

Abstract: A first shell in a booster enclosure is substantially cup-shaped, and a second shell is substantially plate-shaped and has an annular groove which opens radially outward. The second shell is fitted inside the first shell. The inner surface of the annular groove and the inner circumference of the first shell clamp an outer circumferential beaded part of a diaphragm. The second shell is prevented from disengagement from the first shell by engaging pawls formed on the first shell. A reinforcing cylindrical or conical portion is formed at the part of the second shell which is brought into contact with the engaging pawls of the first shell. This reinforcing portion improves the rigidity of this part and prevents the deformation of the second shell by the engaging pawls.

Abstract: A clutch servo for a vehicle cable-operated clutch system has a housing, an input member to which an input force is applied by the cable which has an inner cable and an outer sheath, an output member connected to a clutch, and a movable wall for augmenting the output force which acts through the output member. The movable wall is operated by a fluid pressure chamber, pressurization of which is controlled by a valve in response to the input force. In one construction the inner cable is movable relative to the movable wall and a locking device is incorporated to lock the inner cable and the movable wall against relative movement when the movable wall is not in its retracted position. This ensures that the servo is not affected by adjustment of the cable to compensate for clutch lining wear when this adjustment is performed between the servo and the pedal.
