    Abstract: A method for continuously removing a particular type of gas molecules (“gas molecules”) from a gas stream includes selecting a liquid having an affinity for the gas molecules to be removed, and providing the selected liquid to each of a first and second mat, each mat formed from a plurality of fibers having the ability to retain the selected liquid within longitudinally extending channels having longitudinally extending openings against moving into the space between the individual fibers, the mats in fluid communication therebetween with the selected liquid. The method includes directing the gas stream through a portion of the first mat into contact with the selected liquid along the longitudinally extending openings whereby the selected liquid absorbs the gas molecules, and directing a second gas through a portion of the second mat so that the gas molecules, absorbed by and disbursed throughout the selected liquid, are stripped and carried away.

    Abstract: In a method for purifying biogas, components present in the biogas, such as carbon dioxide, sulfur compounds and ammonia, are separated in a plurality of different process stages. The method is characterized by low energy consumption and an increase in methane concentration of at least 10% while keeping methane losses low. In a first purifying step, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and other organic water-soluble substances in the raw gas are removed at normal pressure or at overpressure of up to 6 bar in a wash column using fresh water, methane gas having a methane concentration of at least 65% is withdrawn at the head of the wash column. Methane and carbon dioxide dissolved in the washing water are sequentially separated from the contaminated washing water discharged from the washing stage in a first stripping column at normal pressure and subsequently in a second stripping column in a vacuum.

    Abstract: A method has been discovered for stripping aromatic hydrocarbon contaminants from wastewater and retaining the aromatic hydrocarbons on activated carbon. The wastewater is contacted countercurrently with stripping gas. The stripping gas is passed over a bed of activated carbon to regenerate the stripping gas. The entire volume of stripping gas is recycled to the stripping vessel. There is no purge of stripping gas or aromatic hydrocarbons to the atmosphere. The removed aromatic hydrocarbons are retained by the activated carbon and periodically recovered. An activated carbon particularly adapted for retaining and recovering aromatic hydrocarbons has been found.
