    Abstract: Vortex gas separation is forced in radial counterflow between counter-rotating coaxial centrifugal impellers. Feed is at the axis of rotation. Axial extraction of nitrogen and water vapor is driven by an axial pump and by back pressure from the tank while radially outward flow of carbon dioxide and scrubbing targets is driven by the impellers. Scrubbing of the concentrated targets is in high turbulence during a long residence time. Tiny centrifugation effects of innumerable turbulent eddy vortices in a shear layer between the impellers and in the tank are integrated by the forcing regime of the impellers and the axial pump. Radial vortices caused by shear between the counter-rotating impellers provide coherent sink flow conduits for axial extraction of nitrogen ballast. Fine fly ash (PM-2.5) scrubbing is concurrent with NOx and SOx scrubbing and with carbon capture.

    Abstract: Fan blades within a fan assembly are rotated in a first rotational direction, thereby generating airflow from above the fan blades downward past the fan blades. Airborne particles adhere to the surface of the fan blades as the air flows past. The fan direction is then reversed maintained at a relatively low rotational rate. A fluid is dispensed onto the hub of the fan blades. Due to the centripetal force of the spinning fan blades, the fluid is spread thin across the top surface of the fan blades and the liquid film washes the blade of the fan, removing particulates from the fan blade. The solution is pushed outward against the inner wall of the fan housing forming a fluid meniscus. The fan speed is increased to push the fluid meniscus into an annular reservoir. The collected fluid is then vacuumed and consolidated into the collection vessel.

    Abstract: An air washer includes an upwardly-open vessel for holding an air washing liquid. An air inlet opening into the upwardly open vessel introduces air to be washed below the upper level of the air washing liquid, and a chamber above the upper level of air washing liquid has inner and outer walls. A fan spaced from the upper level of air washing liquid is positioned within the outer wall of the chamber. The fan pulls an air flow through the inner wall of the chamber and exhausts it to an exhaust path downstream of the fan. Operation of the fan induces air to pass through the inlet and to be washed by the air washing liquid in the vessel and to pass through the chamber to the fan and then to be exhausted through the exhaust path. Air washing liquid entrained as liquid droplets in the cleaned air is propelled outwardly by the fan and centrifugally removed from the cleaned air.

A control device such as an endless screw, chain, or rod may be used for opening and closing the flap especially when it is located on the interior of a shroud. A flow restriction unit can also be used with the liquid management unit to provide increased velocity to incoming liquid. The flow restriction unit is formed as a U-shaped member with an open inlet and opposite open outlet end. The inlet end cross sectional area may be increased by angling the sides outward at the inlet or slanting the bottom downward from the outlet to the inlet ends.

    Abstract: A waste gas scrubber includes a hollow, cylindrical atomizer, mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis. The atomizer is partially submerged in a pool of liquid. The atomizer has relatively large openings at its two ends, and has a plurality of closely-spaced vanes along its middle section. Waste gas is drawn into the openings at one end of the atomizer, and is combined with liquid scooped in by the vanes when the atomizer rotates. The liquid tends to absorb and/or encapsulate particulates in the gas stream. The resulting fluid is then drawn out of the atomizer through the openings at its other end. A blower provides negative pressure which draws the fluids through the desired path, and which overcomes the centrifugal force produced by rotation of the atomizer. Substantially the entire interior region of the atomizer is used for scrubbing, so that the scrubber is much more efficient than waste gas scrubbers of the prior art.
