Patent number: 6365119Abstract: Constantly high efficiency of a catalytic converter can only be ensured when the configuration is maintained relatively free of particulate matter. A screen is disposed on the inflow side of the catalytic converter, which continuously or discontinuously transports away the flue dust particles collected by the screen. The flue dust collected is transported by the lateral movement of the screen to one side of the catalytic converter where the collected dust is removed. Alternatively or additionally, a vacuum system may be employed to clean the screen.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1997Date of Patent: April 2, 2002Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Klaus Hüttenhofer, Günther Spitznagel

Patent number: 6036750Abstract: A secondary separator stage for separating material conveyed in a fluid stream. A material collecting receptacle includes an inlet conduit and an exhaust vent. The stream of fluid with materials flow via the inlet conduit into the receptacle. An exhauster located upstream on the inlet conduit removes the majority of the fluid within the fluid stream prior to the stream flowing into the receptacle. The remaining portion of the fluid entering the receptacle is removed via an exhaust vent. A rotating plate allows the fluid in the receptacle to pass therethrough but blocks passage of any conveyed materials.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Air Equipment & Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Donald G. Patent number: 5785936Abstract: A method for the simultaneous control of SO.sub.2, NO.sub.x, HCl, air toxins, metal fumes, and particulate emissions (ash, soot, metal oxides) from fossil fuel burning combustion processes is provided by injecting a sorbent upstream of a filter in the furnace and collecting sorbent and particulates in the filter. Collecting the sorbent in the filter increases its residence time in the process. The sorbent is injected in the post-flame region of a furnace, where it reacts with the SO.sub.2, the NO.sub.x, the HCl, and the air toxics in the effluent gas. A surface filter that can withstand temperatures of approximately 1000.degree. C. is mounted, either fixedly or rotatably, in the furnace downstream of the sorbent injection region. The gas flows through the filter, and the sorbent and other particulates become embedded in the surface layer of the filter.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: July 28, 1998Assignee: Northeastern UniversityInventor: Yiannis A. Patent number: 5679136Abstract: A rotary drum filter having a reduced amount of fluff in the enclosure during operation. The volume of the enclosure and the mass flow rate of fluff coming into the enclosure are taken into account when determining a proper speed for the rotary drum so that fluff build up on the filter medium is reduced. By properly balancing these three items, fluff may be removed from the filter enclosure at a rate which is equal to or greater than the rate at which the fluff enters the enclosure. The structure of the rotary drum enclosure provides a high velocity, smooth air flow at the bottom of the filter enclosure. The incoming air and fluff are distributed over the entire length of the floor, so that turbulence is created along the length of the floor. In addition, the floor is curved so that there are no joining positions along the floor where dust can accumulate, and so all fluff entering the enclosure is blown to the top of the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1995Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Osprey CorporationInventors: John Patrick Phillips, Martin Alan Price
