Patent number: 7758836Abstract: A system and method for removing sulfur-containing contaminants from indoor air includes a panel system having a first layer and a second layer. The first layer can include a base media onto which sodium bicarbonate is attached. The second layer can include a base media onto which activated carbon is attached. Indoor air including sulfur-containing contaminants can contact and pass through the first layer. Sulfuric acid can react with the sodium bicarbonate to produce sodium sulfate, which can, in turn, act as a drying agent for organic sulfur-containing contaminants in the indoor air, such as carbon disulfide and carbonyl sulfide. As a result of such drying, the second layer can more effectively trap and/or bind (adsorb) the organic sulfur-containing contaminants so that these contaminants are removed from the contaminated air. The treated air can be returned to an indoor space of the structure.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2009Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Inventors: Ronald G. Huggins, Carl M. Sabatello, Paul T. Sabatello

Patent number: 7604688Abstract: An antiallergen filter of the present invention is characterized in that a water-insoluble high-molecular weight anti-allergenic agent having a phenolic hydroxyl group and a moisture-absorbing material are carried on a filter. Because of using the water-insoluble high-molecular weight substance as an anti-allergenic agent, the antiallergen filter of the present invention is free from a problem that the anti-allergenic agent flows and drops or is detached from the filter due to moisture in the atmosphere, etc. even in a highly humid environment or the like. Further, since the moisture-absorbing material is carried on the filter, moisture that the anti-allergenic agent requires for adsorbing and capturing an allergen and inactivating its allergic activity can be effectively retained on the filter. Thus, the antiallergen filter of the present invention can effectively exert its anti-allergenic effect over a prolonged period of time.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2008Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jun Inagaki, Ryousuke Suga, Takahiro Nakajima, Mitsuhito Teramoto, Taro Suzuki

Patent number: 7316323Abstract: A filter block having a permeability of greater than about 3.0*10?9 cm2, and a F-VLR of greater than about 99% is provided. The filter block may be made of filter particles having a median particle size of less than about 50 microns and having a particle span of about 1.4 or less. The filter blocks of the present invention can be used to make a filter for filtering liquids and more specifically, for providing potable water. The filter particles may be mesoporous. Kits comprising filters and information relating to the killing or removal of bacteria, viruses, and microbials are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2004Date of Patent: January 8, 2008Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Dimitris Ioannis Collias, Stephen Allen Goldman, Michael Donovan Mitchell

Patent number: 7314507Abstract: A metallic filter effectively removes mercury vapor from gas streams. The filter captures the mercury which then can be released and collected as product. The metallic filter is a copper mesh sponge plated with a six micrometer thickness of gold. The filter removes up to 90% of mercury vapor from a mercury contaminated gas stream.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2004Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Montana Tech of The University of MontanaInventor: Kumar Ganesan

Patent number: 7311752Abstract: The invention is a filter for gaseous media in which nano alumina fibers and second fibers are arranged in a matrix to create asymmetrical pores. The filter is a high efficiency, high capacity particulate filter that intercepts pathogens and other particulate matter from gaseous media, including vapor-suspended particles. The new filter has an improved retention of water-aerosolized particles as compared to conventional HEPA filters and may be used as a pre-filter that extends the life of HEPA filters by about five to ten times. The invention is also a method of manufacturing and using the filter.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2006Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Argonide CorporationInventors: Frederick Tepper, Leonid A. Patent number: 7311751Abstract: A filter medium includes at least a first and a second layer. Both first and second layers have a layer volume VLq and a layer filtering surface SLq, where SLq is the accumulation of all mantle surfaces of the fibers present in this layer q. The first layer has a SL1/VL1-ratio of less than 32500 m2/m3, and the second layer has a SL2/VL2-ratio being more than 1.1×SL1/VL1.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2002Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: NV Bekaert SAInventors: Feng Mei, Willy Marrecau

Patent number: 7273514Abstract: An apparatus and method for filtering particulate from an internal combustion engine by use of monolithic particulate trap systems having porous walls (2c, 24c). The porous walls (2c, 24c) filter the particulate. The filtered particulate on inner surfaces of the porous walls is periodically removed or regenerated via back flow of previously filtered exhaust gas. The back flow is caused by creating a pressure difference across the porous walls. The back flow of the previously filtered exhaust gas is simultaneously or sequentially coupled with high velocity through flow of exhaust gas in the channels. In addition, the particulate trap system can be an adsorber-catalyst particulate trap system for filtering particulate and reducing NOx via an adsorber-catalyst trap systems to achieve the EPA 2007 standards.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2005Date of Patent: September 25, 2007Assignee: Illinois Valley Holding CompanyInventors: John M.
