  • Patent number: 11371916
Abstract: An apparatus for passive sampling of airborne particles such as those found in an aerosol is disclosed. The passive sampler is designed to take advantage of natural air flow to collect airborne particles, such as those contained in an aerosol, for subsequent analysis. The passive sampler increases the sampling efficiency for diffusion and electrostatic collection of particles by using natural airflow or movement to bring particles closer to the deposition surface. Alternately charged electret filters further increase the sampling efficiency.

Abstract: A two-stage oil separator for crankcase ventilation includes a housing having a lower end and an upper end. The lower end communicates with the crankcase and the upper end communicates with an exhaust system. The housing defines an internal flow channel extending generally upwards from the lower end toward the upper end. A first-stage filter element is disposed proximate the lower end and includes a first filter media of relatively coarser porosity. A second-stage filter element is disposed proximate the upper end and vertically upward of the first-stage filter element. The second-stage filter element includes a second filter media of relatively finer porosity than the first filter media.

  • Patent number: 8337597
Abstract: A moisture diversion system for a gas turbine inlet. The moisture diversion system comprises a housing that is operably connected with a gas turbine and defines an opening through which air flows to the gas turbine. A hood is attached to the housing adjacent the opening. The hood has a surface disposed at an acute angle relative to horizontal. A device is disposed relative to the hood to separate moisture from air flowing through the device. Separated moisture is directed onto the hood. A gutter is disposed adjacent an edge of the hood to collect moisture from the hood. A conduit is fluidly connected with the gutter to conduct water away from the gutter and the opening in the housing to inhibit separated moisture from re-entering the air flow through the opening to the gas turbine.

  • Patent number: 8323384
Abstract: An extended life filter element is provided that may at least double the service interval of a given filtration application utilizing the same or similar filter housing envelope provided. The filter element may include a more open pleated substrate with an efficiency layer and a prefilter on the upstream surface. The filter may be a foam sleeve. One exemplary application is for air filtration of air flow to electrical cabinets on locomotives.

Abstract: A mist eliminator including a substrate and a plurality of frusto-conical shaped protrusions disposed on the substrate is provided. The plurality of frusto-conical shaped protrusions have a geometry and are positioned at intervals that provide coalescence and retention of water particles from moisture containing air contacting the substrate and frusto-conical shaped protrusions. A moisture removal system and a method for removing water particles from inlet air with the mist eliminator are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20120205323
Abstract: A fluid filter media including a first media layer, a second media layer, a filter layer disposed between the first media layer and the second media layer, and a plurality of spaced apart weld points that couple the first media layer, the filter layer, and the second media layer together, where the weld points distort the surface of the first media layer and the second media layer, the fluid filter media is folded back on itself to form a plurality of pleats, and the surface distortions permit fluid flow through the fluid filter media when adjacent surfaces of the fluid filter media touch.

  • Patent number: RE44536
Abstract: A filter includes at least two different adsorptive media. First, chemisorptive media, which is porous and includes an acidic functional group, is used to remove molecular bases, including ammonia, organic amines, imides and aminoalchols, from the atmosphere used in semiconductor fabrication and other processes that require uncontaminated gaseous environments of high quality. Second, physisorptive media is able to adsorb condensable contaminants, particularly those having a boiling point greater than 150 degrees C. The physisorptive media can include untreated, activated carbon.
