Patent number: 8920546Abstract: A system and method recover water from an ambient airstream. Dehumidification of the airstream is also achieved by removal of the water. A device of the system includes a chamber having a group of trays that hold respective amounts of liquid desiccant in each tray. A foam media absorbs the desiccant to increase an exposed surface of the desiccant to the airstream. Fans and valves are used to control airflow through the device. A charge cycle circulates air through the device to remove water vapor from the airstream. A subsequent extraction cycle removes water collected in the liquid desiccant by a condenser communicating with the chamber. An integral heat exchanger adds heat to the chamber during the extraction cycle. A controller is used to integrate and manage all system functions and input variables to achieve a high efficiency of operational energy use for water collection.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2012Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: Z124Inventors: James Ball, Charles Becze, Michael J. Patent number: 8070865Abstract: A vacuum vessel for continuous or semi-continuous treatment of oils in connection with deodorization comprises spaces (12, 121, 122) through which oil to be treated is brought to pass and means to heat or cool the oil in the form of U-tubes. There are perforated pipes (26) arranged at the bottom of said spaces to lead stripping gas into said oil. The vessel has a connection to a vacuum source (7). The spaces in the vessel are arranged such that the oil to be treated in the vessel flows through the same by gravity. The heating or cooling medium passing the U-tubes is arranged to be pumped therethrough. The U-tubes for heating or cooling medium are arranged in such a way in said spaces that the flow of oil is counter-current to the flow of heating or cooling medium all through the vessel and a number of U-tubes are arranged in groups (13), parallel and in rows above each other in said spaces.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2006Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Alfa Laval Corporate ABInventor: Bjarne Gullov-Rasmussen

Publication number: 20100083829Abstract: The present invention relates to a pressure swing adsorption process, also known as PSA process, which is modified with a view to utilizing the heat from the post-adsorption stream coming from the molecular sieves to heat/vaporize the pre-adsorption stream containing the hydrated product or the mixture component(s) to be adsorbed in said sieves. The present invention provides alternative arrangements for the heat exchanger system in order to use the thermal potential of the post-adsorption stream with the elimination or minimization of the risk of a slug flow regime in the exchangers, the so-called “gush,” which would be a natural result from the periodic oscillation characteristic of PSA processes. With this, the vapor consumption with the modified process according to the present invention is considerably reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2007Publication date: April 8, 2010Inventors: Adler Gomes Moura, Daniel Moczydlower

Patent number: 6165325Abstract: A vacuum vessel for continuous or semicontinuous treatment of fatty oils in connection with deodorization includes spaces through which the oil which is to be treated is brought to pass. The vessel also contains U-tubes used to heat or cool the oil and perforated pipes arranged at the bottom of the vessel. Through these pipes stripping gas is led into the oil. The vacuum vessel is connected to a vacuum source. According to the invention the vessel has the form of a container with a mainly rectangular bottom with partitions parallel to a long side of the container. These partitions delimit channels connected in series through which the oil passes. The bottom of a first channel as seen in the direction of flow is arranged on a higher level than the second channel seen in the direction of flow such that the oil is forced to pass through the vessel by gravity. The vacuum vessel has a low height in relation to the length of its sides.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1997Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Alfa Laval ABInventors: Peter Sjoberg, Anders M.A. Hillstrom

Patent number: 5833363Abstract: The device serves for mixing and degassing a free-flowing compound (5), in particular a casting resin containing filler. The device has an evacuable container (1, 6) of cylindrical design, the container axis (2) of which is aligned essentially in the vertical direction. Provided in the interior of the container is a rotatable plate (13), fastened on an axially guided shaft (12), for distributing compound (5) fed into the container (1, 6), as well as a thin-layer degassing system (14) which can be heated and cooled and degasses the compound (5) fed by the distributing plate (13). A stirrer homogenizes the degassed compound collected in the interior of the container. The thin-layer degassing system (14) occupies the major part of the space present between the shaft (12) and the wall of the container (1, 6).Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1997Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Micafil Vakuumtechnik AGInventor: Paul Gmeiner

Patent number: 5569315Abstract: A melt is converted into pieces by being converted to individual quantities that are dropped onto a cooling surface. Disposed above the cooling surface is a hood having a suction outlet for conducting waste air to a cleaner. Disposed in the hood upstream of the suction outlet is an arrangement of surfaces defining a serpentine flow path for the waste air so that a vaporous component of the waste air crystallizes on the surfaces. The surfaces are formed by plates mounted on a common transport carrier which periodically moves the plates against a scraper for scraping off the crystallized material. Alternately, the surfaces can be defined by endless belts which move against scrapers.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1995Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: Santrade Ltd.Inventors: Axel K onig, Herbert W urmseher, Matthias Kleinhans
