Patent number: 8128742Abstract: Method and apparatus for treating air containing hydrogen sulfide gas, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals and other mercaptans in order to reduce odor and corrosion related to wet wells, dry pits, grease traps and the like. The system comprises a first and second stage air treatment system. A vacuum pump in the primary (stage 2) treatment housing vacuums the contaminated air from the source and pumps the air through a set of diffusers into a treatment fluid wherein the air is then passed through a pair of porous plates and upward through a discharge pump and then into the atmosphere. Prior to treating the air in the primary housing, it is treated in a pretreatment dry air filter wherein the air is inlet into the pretreatment (stage 1) housing and then through a microfilter prior to being passed into the primary housing for further treatment.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2010Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Inventor: Thomas R. Patent number: 7329298Abstract: A filter for exhaust gases produced by an internal combustion engine, and a method of using such a mat on a vehicle. The filter is a mat of fibers enclosed within a metal gauze. Preferably, the mats are corrugated and spaced apart within a housing such that exhaust gases will pass through the mats sequentially. The fibers are wettable, and in use are preferably located a sufficient distance from the engine such that the mat is wetted by condensing water or other liquid in the exhaust gas. Preferably also, the filter is adapted for coupling to an existing exhaust pipe opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2000Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Aerotech Engineering LimitedInventor: Julian Hasinski

Patent number: 6740148Abstract: The present invention is an exhaust gas purifier that can effectively remove soot from exhaust gas of a diesel automobile, for example, a truck and a bus. The present invention has a simple structure, and can effectively remove from exhaust gas the following exemplary pollutants, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and hydrocarbons.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2002Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: NASA AutoInventor: Mutsuyo Naruke

Patent number: 6613130Abstract: A filter device for removing combustion gases and/or particulate matter from air comprises a cooling unit and filtering unit. The cooling unit has an inlet for receiving an air stream containing combustion gases and/or particulate matter, a cooling member for lowering the temperature of the air stream, a first outlet for discharge of a condensate, and a second outlet for discharge of the air stream containing uncondensed particulate matter. The filtering unit has an inlet for receiving the air stream containing uncondensed particulate matter from the second outlet of the cooling unit, the filtering unit having at least one filter barrier through which the air stream passes, the filter barrier being configured to catch at least a portion of the particulate matter in the air stream. The invention is also for a process for removing combustion gases and/or particulate matter from an air stream.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: G.E.N. Patent number: 6402816Abstract: An exhaust gas scrubber including a tank of scrubbing liquid into which a downconer pipe(s) feeds inlet gas and fresh scrubbing liquid from a plenum. The inlet gas flows through slotted vortex generators forming file-scale bubbles encapsulated within a scrubbing liquid. The bubbles mix and coalesce in a turbulent motion, and are then passed through another set of vortex generators which break up coalesced bubbles and form fresh fine sized bubbles, and impart an angular velocity to the mixture. Formation and coalescence of the bubbles produce gas phase to liquid phase mixing and scrubbing. Centrifugal forces created through the slotted vortex generator produce liquid circulation and recycle. The bubbly mixture then rises, bubbles coalesce and break, and the liquid scrubbing solution falls back, flowing into a relatively quiescent down flow zone around the perimeter of the scrubber outside of an overflow weir or weirs.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Inventors: Gordon S. Patent number: 6393836Abstract: A treatment device for exhaust of a vehicle has a main body, a filter net, and a covering lid. The main body includes an exhaust storage chamber and an outer inlet pipe in communication with the exhaust storage chamber for guiding the exhaust from the exhaust pipe of a car into the main body. Branch pipes with radial tubes in the main body communicate with the exhaust storage chamber, each having numerous small apertures. A netting stand is in the main body to support the filter net and liquid agent is filled in the main body with a level below the filter net. The covering lid encloses the upper opening of the main body. The device causes the exhaust to have a greater contact area with the liquid agent and with the filter net. Accordingly, the harmful substances in the exhaust are removed effectively, and the temperature of exhaust and the sound volume of generated noise are lowered substantially.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Inventor: Ta-Wei Huang
