Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a filter panel having inner and outer surfaces and a configuration for completely covering a computer housing ventilation opening. The filter apparatus includes an adhesive layer permanently adhered to the inner surface of the filter panel. A thermochromic region is positioned on the outer surface of the filter panel which changes color as temperature increases. The thermochromic region includes an ink layer and a wax layer positioned atop the ink layer. The wax layer includes a thermochromic dye having a color different from the color of the ink layer. The color of the thermochromic dye blocks the color of the ink layer at an ambient temperature and is transparent to allow the ink layer color to be seen at an activation temperature. Therefore, the filter apparatus provides an indication when the filter is full and heat is building within the housing as a result.

  • Patent number: 6749655
Abstract: A two-stage filtration system is coupled with an oven, such as a solder reflow oven, to remove a vapor stream from the oven and to remove organic compounds that have volatilized from a solder flux and other contaminants from the vapor stream. The filtration system includes a first stage for trapping larger particles and a second stage including a packed bed of wettable media, such as steel balls, for trapping smaller particles and serving as a nucleation site for condensed organic compounds. The first stage can be a centrifugal self-cleaning element in the form of a mesh strainer coupled with a rotary motor for spinning the mesh strainer.

  • Publication number: 20040083895
Abstract: A filter structure of a vehicle air conditioner comprises a filter cartridge provided with a plurality of filter papers within a case and a light source. The light source is provided at a position within the filter papers for radiating light toward one side of the case. The light is blocked when pollutants deposited on the filter papers are enough to cause a contaminated state of the filer to reach a preset state. A display section is provided on the case for transmitting the light, radiated from the light source, to be visually checked on the external side. Therefore, the filter structure allows a driver to check a proper exchange time of the filter visually through a display section in which a display state changes according to a contaminated state of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20040083896
Abstract: An end of service life indicator (ESLI) device for a fluid filter is included on the filter and visually indicates when the life of the filter has expired. The ESLI indicates the depletion of the filter by changing the color density on a surface of the device to a color density having a well distinguishable contrasting pattern that is easily recognizable even by individuals who are color-blind. The contrasting pattern may express text indicative of the state of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20040065195
Abstract: Filter media and filter structure or media pack can be engineered to exhibit high initial efficiency and to surface load particulate removed from a gaseous stream. The filter technology protects engine operation from ingested particulate and accumulates the particulate as a surface loaded layer visible on the surface of the structure. The particulate accumulates as a surface loaded layer until it achieves a certain depth of particulate or gray scale characteristic or color depth indicative of the end of the useful life of the filter prompting a change of the filter structure. The filter structure is characterized by its ability to surface load particulate, avoid accumulation of particulate in the depth media and enhance the characteristics of the material through surface loading. Such technology is particularly useful in light duty vehicle maintenance technology.

  • Patent number: 6464760
Abstract: The invention relates to a portable air sterilization and filtration apparatus for removing contaminants from the ambient atmosphere, having a housing with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, filter media and ultraviolet light source, and a motorized fan for maintaining a flow of air through the housing from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. The invention also includes easy access to the filter medium and to the ultraviolet light sources for periodic replacement or cleaning, and integrates a safety lock feature whereby the removal of the filter or the removal of an ultraviolet light source would open the power circuit to the ultraviolet light source, preventing accidental irradiation of the user. The ultraviolet light sources also activate an indicator light viewable by the user when the ultraviolet light sources are energized.

  • Patent number: 6110260
Abstract: Disclosed is a change indicator for a filter for use in a gaseous circulation system, such as a forced air heating and cooling system. The change indicator includes an air impervious patch that is secured to the filter. The portion of the filter media adjacent to the change indicator changes appearance in response to the accumulation of contaminants at a much slower rate than the remainder of the air filter. The accumulation of contaminants progresses inwardly from the region adjacent the periphery of the change indicator towards the region adjacent to the center. Once the appearance of the filter media beneath the change indicator fully changes from periphery to the center, that is an indication that the air filter is in need of cleaning or replacement.
