  • Patent number: 3947273
Abstract: A process is described of improving the development characteristics of photographic silver halide elements by the use of compounds corresponding to the formula:RO(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n (CO).sub.m Awherein:R represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl or (--CO).sub.m --A,n is an integer of at least 4,m is 0 or 1, andA represents, when m is O, sulphoalkyl, carboxyalkyl, or sulphoalkoxycarbonylalkyl, and when m is 1, carboxyalkyl, sulphoalkoxycarbonylalkyl, carboxyalkenyl, sulphoalkoxycarbonylalkenyl, carboxyphenyl, sulphoalkoxycarbonylphenyl or sulphophenyl,The aliphatic hydrocarbon groups having at most 4C-atoms and the carboxyl and sulpho groups being in acid or salt form. The polyethylene glycol derivatives increase developability and sensitivity of black-and-white as well as colour emulsions. They also improve lith-development of photographic "lith"-emulsions.

  • Patent number: 3935016
Abstract: A color photographic material comprising a support having coated thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing a magenta dye forming coupler having a 3-anilino-5-pyrazolone ring in which the ortho position of the anilino group at the 3-position is substituted with a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an amide group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a hydroxyl group, or an amino group and having a hydrophobic residue of 8 to 32 carbon atoms, the silver halide emulsion layer or an emulsion layer adjacent to the silver halide emulsion layer containing a hydroquinone derivative having at least one substituent of at least 8 carbon atoms or a precursor capable of providing such a hydroquinone derivative by hydrolysis. The color photographic material provides magenta dye images having good color separation and less color fog and less color stains in the highlight areas.

  • Patent number: 3930859
Abstract: An improved photographic processing system and process are provided. The system includes a novel photographic recording medium comprising a layer of silver halide emulsion, a barrier layer disposed on a surface thereof, the barrier layer being soluble in aqueous alkali but insoluble in water and acidic media, and an acidic developer disposed as a layer on the outer surface of the barrier layer or mixed therewith. The developer is activatable at an alkaline pH. A novel processing web comprising a support containing an alkali and a free water source is also provided, which web is adapted for contacting the layer containing developer to initiate development of the silver halide. The developer thus is isolated from alkali and from the emulsion prior to developing. The process includes exposure of the recording medium, followed by the described contacting for development of a visible image.

  • Patent number: 3930866
Abstract: A color photographic material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing a 3-anilino-5-pyrazolone type magenta dye forming coupler and a phenolic compound for improving the light fastness of the magenta dye formed by the coupling reaction of the magenta dye forming coupler with the oxidation product of a color developing agent in combination with a nucleus-substituted hydroquinone, in which the reduction of the coupling reactivity of the magenta dye forming coupler during the storage of the color photographic material caused by the presence of the phenolic compound is prevented efficiently.
