Centrifugal Patents (Class 99/302C)
  • Patent number: 5566605
Abstract: An extraction cell of the centrifugal type for a hot beverage preparation machine, including a grounds collection drum on which is mounted, in a sealed manner by a sealing structure, a cover provided with a liquid delivery orifice, and a filtration structure, wherein the filtration structure and the sealing structure are constituted by at least one deformable joint, or seal, interposed in a groove between the drum and cover, the joint having deformation properties, and being mounted to be compressed by an amount which is in a pre-established compression range with the aid of a compression controlling means, to insure that below a pre-established operating pressure existing in the cell, fluid tightness of the cell is maintained, and beyond that pressure, filtration of the grounds-liquid mixture occurs by deformation of the joint.

  • Patent number: 5265517
Abstract: Disclosed is a coffee brewing apparatus and method for brewing coffee which employs a rotating basket and other appropriate support structure The rotating basket is subjected to centrifugal acceleration and water containing caffeol is selectively extracted from water and ground coffee present in the basket. The water and caffeol extracted from the ground coffee exits from the basket through a plurality of ports disposed around the circumference thereof, is directed through a discharge passageway and is collected in a receptacle. In accordance with the method a preselected amount of ground coffee is introduced into the basket which is subjected to centrifugal acceleration. A preselected amount of water at a predetermined temperature is added to the basket in order to form a coffee grounds-water mixture and an aqueous solution containing caffeol but not the coffee grounds is selectively removed from the basket through the plurality of circumferential ports located in the wall of the basket.

  • Patent number: 4962693
Abstract: A coffee maker of the centrifugal brewing type includes a brewing case for containing milled coffee beans, the brewing case having a filter provided at the outer periphery thereof for the coffee brewing, a hot water feed mechanism for feeding hot water to the brewing case, an electric motor for rotating the brewing case so that a centrifugal force is applied to the hot water fed into the brewing case, thereby causing the hot water to pass through the milled coffee beans and then, through the filter, and control circuitry for controlling the hot water feed mechanism and the motor so that the motor is driven to rotate the brewing case after the hot water feed is initiated from the hot water feed mechanism to the brewing case.

  • Patent number: 4641572
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for centrifuging liquid from a wet material. The apparatus includes a centrifugal drum and a stripper member positioned adjacent the centrifugal drum. The front side of the centrifugal drum is open and is arranged to be closed by a cover. The stripper is firmly connected to a driving shaft when the centrifugal drum is driven by means of a sliding clutch. A brake is provided for slowing down the centrifugal drum. During the centrifuging procedure, the centrifugal drum and the stripper rotate with the same number of revolutions and the cover is closed. After the centrifuging procedure, the centrifugal drum is slowed down with respect to the stripper and the cover is opened so that the still running stripper removes and ejects the residues.

  • Patent number: 4545296
Abstract: An apparatus for making coffee includes a housing which bounds a catch chamber provided with a discharge through which any liquid present in the catch chamber is discharged into a receptacle, so that a rotary body which is mounted in the catch chamber for rotation about an axis rotates in air. The rotary body includes an internal space which is subdivided by a partition into two compartments which communicate with one another at their outer ends. Liquid is discharged from one of the compartments into the catch chamber through a port situated at the inner end of such compartment, while hot liquid is introduced into the inner end of the other compartment and flows therethrough and the quantity of ground coffee contained therein to extract flavor from the latter. The rate of discharge is determined solely by the rate of replenishment, since the two compartments behave as connected vessels or a water trap.

  • Patent number: 4476776
Abstract: A centrifuge cage for coffee centrifuges or juice extractors is in two parts. The top part or member can be moved axially relatively to the bottom part between a closed position, in which the centrifuge cage is sealing tight along the boundary zone on its periphery, the same having a mesh zone, and an open position, in which the filtered material can be hurled outwards from the centrifuge cage.

  • Patent number: 3967546
Abstract: Automatic coffee maker comprises a rotatable chamber defined by upper and lower members which closely approach each other to define a narrow gap at their peripheral edges, one of which edges is flexible. Ground coffee is centrifugally driven toward said gap, which, in one position of the chamber is too narrow to pass the grounds, while permitting liquid to seep therethrough. The chamber may be moved to a second position in which the gap is wide enough to release the grounds.
