  • Patent number: 11291227
Abstract: Systems and methods for preventing dumping of a popping kettle in a popcorn machine above a preset temperature to facilitate fire containment are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a popcorn machine can include one or more temperature control systems to prevent the popping kettle from exceeding a normal operating temperature range. In the event such systems fail, however, embodiments of the present technology include lock systems that will lock the popping kettle in an upright position before the kettle reaches a temperature that will ignite the popping oil. Locking the popping kettle in this manner prevents an operator from inadvertently dumping burning oil onto popcorn piled in the bottom of the cabinet, igniting the popcorn and causing the fire to spread. Locking the kettle can also provide additional time for a fire suppression system to extinguish the fire while it is contained in the kettle.

Abstract: A roasting and glazing apparatus comprising a housing, a bowl assembly having a bowl support and a roaster bowl, an agitator rotatably mounted within the roaster bowl, a heater to heat the roaster bowl, and a cantilever arm disposed external to the housing. The cantilever arm, when moved, moves the roaster bowl between fully lowered and fully raised positions. A first piston is coupled to the bowl support and provides, when engaged, a counterforce to the weight of the bowl assembly. The first piston is engaged at least during the raising of the roaster bowl. A second piston provides a counterforce during the lowering of the roaster bowl from a partially lowered position to the fully towered position. The second piston is not engaged during lowering of the roaster howl from the fully raised position to the partially lowered position. After producing roasted and glazed nuts using the apparatus, the roaster bowl is raised to facilitate removal of the roasted and glazed nuts, and then the roaster bowl is lowered.

Abstract: The popcorn popper blowout stopper is an accessory unit of a round rimmed screen with an arm and a handle attached to be able to position the screen over the discharge outlet/heating chamber within the popper assembly. The screen will prevent kernels (but not the airflow) from leaving the popcorn popper burning pets, people/children and landing on the counters and floor. The accessory is important especially in the beginning and the end of the cycle when the output of popped corn is sparse and until the mass of popped corn pushes the accessory into the awaiting bowl. After the mass of popped corn subsides and the output is sparse, the accessory can then be placed again in the popcorn popper for blowout protection to the very end of the cycle. This accessory will fit the Presto, Orville Redenbacher, Conair, Great Northern and many other popcorn poppers.
