Abstract: A method and apparatus for pan roasting a mass of green coffee beans at rest by heat conduction from the pan bottom to the beans mass. A glass cover and smoke filter closes the roasting chamber. A radial blower operates at slow speed to draw ambient air and vacate smoke from the chamber to permit visual monitoring of roasting beans. Periodically, the fan can operate a high speed for a short time to mix or swirl the bean mass without substantial cooling them. The blower can sequence through high and low speed cycles until roasting completes and heating ceases. A high speed cool down phase removes remaining chaff, smoke, and quick cools the beans to preserve freshness. Electric power drives the blower and resistant heating element. The system enables the operator to use appearance, sound, smell, and time to determine roasting completeness.

The top housing element (13) is arranged at a higher level than the bottom housing element (11), in a normal operative orientation of the toaster (1). Foodstuff to be toasted is arranged between the housing elements (11, 13). In order to have a great visibility to the foodstuff, the top housing element (13) has smaller horizontal dimensions than the bottom housing element (11) which has certain horizontal dimensions in view of the fact that the foodstuff is indirectly supported on the bottom housing element (11). Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus used for automatically shutting off cooking appliances, such as ovens, stoves, hot pots, toasters, grills, and others. More specifically, the apparatus is secured to a cooking appliance, e.g. to its control panel, and may prevent a cooking appliance from being turned on before a timer is set. The apparatus can also increase the ease with which a cooking appliance knob or other actuator may be used. To automatically shutoff the cooking appliance, the apparatus uses a timing mechanism with a spring. Pressure is exerted on a spring when the timer is set, storing enough force in the spring to enable it to turn the cooking appliance to the OFF position when time has expired. A mechanical stop is in place to keep the spring energy from releasing until the timer reaches the OFF position.

Abstract: Indoor use rotisserie ovens which have construction features and scale which make the cleaning process easier. Shown are indoor use rotisserie ovens which also may rotate cooking foods about either a horizontal or vertical axis, which makes their applications more versatile. Construction features include: a scale appropriate for cleaning in a typical kitchen sink, use of removable electrical components, and single oven wall construction, all to allow easy cabinet cleaning. Also shown is a locking tab manufacturing detail which creates an inexpensive, light weight, oven cavity, which is easy to clean and also permits oven cavity washing and/or immersion in water. This manufacturing detail also is easy to handle by the end-user without projecting sharp edges. Self lubricated spit assembly axles are shown as well to help deaden sound.

  • Patent number: 6888110
Abstract: A method and the associated device for detecting cooking or boiling processes in a glass ceramic hob are described, to which power is supplied by a power supply by means of a heating element and said power is transmitted to the cooking vessel standing thereon. During a cooking process a temperature profile of the hob is measured and evaluated. The temperature profile is evaluated after ending the power supply and for evaluation purposes a temperature profile gradient is determined. During evaluation, a normal cooking or boiling process is detected if the gradient exceeds a predetermined threshold. During evaluation, a disturbed or faulty cooking or boiling process is detected if the gradient is equal to or smaller than a predetermined threshold. Such a disturbed or faulty cooking or boiling process can arise through the cooking vessel boiling dry or empty.

  • Patent number: 6883419
Abstract: A fryer in which an overshoot is prevented by an accurate oil temperature control is disclosed. A pulse burner (4) is controlled to be switched ON/OFF based on a condition which is different by each temperature range. This enables to control the pulse burner (4) in accordance with factors which effect on the oil temperature such as an amount and heat capacity of foods and heat quantity of a utensil. Whereby, the oil temperature control in an excellent level is performed under various conditions. Moreover, as the condition to perform ON/OFF control of the pulse burner (4) is simple, for example, which is whether or not the temperature gradient of cooking oil exceeds the standard value, it needs no complicated control and reliability is improved.

Abstract: A state of the current temperature of cooking oil in comparison with the predetermined temperature is figured out and information regarding completion of the on-going cooking and start of the next cooking is easily provided. A display portion 20 largely displays a detected oil temperature state in comparison with the predetermined temperature. As a result, a user can recognize whether the oil temperature is suitable for cooking, thereby it improves utility. Moreover, the display portion displays the oil temperature state and the difference between the predetermined temperature(340° F.) and the detected temperature at the same time. Accordingly, the remaining time to start the next cooking is easily estimated, thereby it improves utility excellently.

  • Patent number: 6810791
Abstract: Termination of cooking in a safe state can be judged without fail. At S5, a cooking timer according to a selected cooking menu is started and at S6 it is judged that the cooking timer finishes. Then, at S7 a burner controller stops heating by burners while a pressure valve is opened so that the pressured air in an oil vat can be released. Because of the release, when pressure in the oil vat 4 reaches a low value which is safe enough to release the lid, a second pressure switch with low set pressure is turned OFF. When it is confirmed that the second pressure switch is turned OFF at S8, a cooking controller 23 alarms a buzzer to notify termination of the cooking at S9.

  • Patent number: 6745669
Abstract: A fryer which notifies an appropriate oil filtering timing is disclosed. While various kinds of cooking is repeated, the degree of amount of fry residues set previously in accordance with menu switch is accumulated every time each menu switch (M1-M5, M7-M11) is pressed (S3-S12, S13: NO, S14: NO). When an accumulative value of amount of accumulated fry residues N is over 50(S14: YES), a notification for filtering timing is performed by blinking a filtering sign “*” at the right side of the display portion 14 (S15). In this way, the oil filtering timing is determined based on an estimated amount of fry residues. Therefore, the notification is performed appropriately.

  • Patent number: 6684757
Abstract: Generally speaking, a latching valve is easily installed in the path of gas flow on a gas grill. Once a grill is turned on, an automatically activated on/off switch activates a electric timing device, which begins monitoring time. The timing device is adjustable by the user to set the amount of time it will accrue prior to sending power to a latching valve, terminating the gas flow. So, if a gas grill is inadvertently left on, the latching valve will receive power and be closed, saving fuel and preventing a possible hazard. At this point a reset button on the timing device must be pressed to reopen the latching valve. But, if a gas grill is used and shut off prior to that time set by the timing device no action will result from the Gas Grill Propane Monitor.
