Abstract: A single runner sled having an elongated runner having a straight medial portion curving upwardly at both the front and rear ends and curving upwardly along the sides of the runner so that shifting the weight of the user from side to side on the pedestal supported seat controls the direction of travel of the runner, the rear end of the runner being curved upwardly higher than the front end of the runner and the seat being located near the rear end so that the unit may be rocked back on the rear end when controlling the speed of travel of the sled by engagement of the feet of the user with the snow over which the sled is traveling. A reinforcing or rubbing strip may be mounted along the flat portion of the bottom of the runner.
Abstract: An elongated, narrow, buoyant, ice rescue craft having a flat, planar, hard bottom, upwardly inclined forward and rearward end walls, upstanding side walls and a full length, flat, planar, top deck of hard material is formed of two identical half sections piano hinge pivoted to each other transversely of the center of the top deck and having releasable latches to retain it in extended position or in over folded condition for storage in the trunk of an automobile. A recess is provided in each opposite end of the top deck, each containing a coil of recovery line having an end affixed to the adjacent end wall. Outriggers may also be provided.
Abstract: A steerable slide-tray (toboggan) for sledding on snow, having a bottom part in which there is provided a recess at the rearward part of the bottom, for receiving a steering member which is rotatably mounted and operatively connected by way of a connecting means to a steering wheel positioned in front of a seating portion of the tray. A support member with the steering member, connecting means and steering wheel mounted thereon, is releasably secured across a channel-shaped portion extending upwards from the bottom of the tray, said channel-shaped portion comprising a laterally widened rearward part of a channel extending along the whole length of the slide-tray.
Abstract: A sledge comprises a seat portion supported via stays on a pair of main runners and a steering runner assembly rotatably mounted in a forward part of the seat portion. At a rear position of the sledge, the stays are connected pivotably about lateral axes to the seat portion and the pair of main runners respectively, and at a forward part of the sledge the main runners are connected pivotably about a longitudinal axis to the seat portion via a joined upwardly curved front portion of the main runners. The pivotable connections between the sledge seat portion and main runners provides for smooth stable sledging and steady steering.
