  • Patent number: 6205947
Abstract: A place finder bookmark for identifying a reader's position on a book page. The inventive device includes a two-way slide (placefinder) on a strip (page-finder). The slide further includes a first set of parallel, horizontal slots for sliding up and down on the strip to locate the vertical position. A right/left slidable bar, inserted through a second set of parallel, vertical slots, can move side to side in a horizontal direction within the slide to show an arrowhead pointing to the right or left hand page. A flat durable anchor member is attached to one end of the strip to hold the placefinder bookmark in position.

  • Patent number: 6170877
Abstract: A page holder adapted to hold opposing pages of a book in an open position while reading. The page holder includes first and second wings meeting at a junction point and disposed at an angle of about 150° with respect to each other. A thumb opening is spaced back from the leading surface of the first and second wings and offset slightly from the junction point toward the first wing. In use, the reader's thumb is inserted into the thumb opening and the junction point is placed between two adjoining pages of an open book near the bottom of the pages. One wing extends over and holds down the page on the right while the other wing holds down the page on the left. One embodiment of the invention is formed of clear plastic material using injection molding, while another embodiment is made of metal wire using wireform manufacturing techniques.

  • Patent number: 5636868
Abstract: A holder apparatus acts in frictional cooperation with books, notebooks, folders, and other hand held rigid or semi-rigid binders containing reading material. The bolder allows one-handed manipulation of the book, notebook, folder, or binder free of accidental dropping or slipping. A strap having inelastic and elastic portions, and fasteners on each free end, allows the strap to encircle the book, notebook, folder or binder. A strap having a single inelastic or elastic portion, and fasteners, allows the strap to encircle the book, notebook, folder or binder. The fasteners releasably attach the strap to the book, notebook, folder or binder. A hand piece attached to the strap is adapted to receive a person's hand and allows easy manipulation and holding of the book, notebook, folder or binder. The hand piece is adjustable to accommodate both large and small hands of a user.

  • Patent number: 5382053
Abstract: A protective jacket includes a central panel and two end panels, at least one of which has a material strip easily removed by hand along a vertical perforation. This material strip has a circular opening at an end to hold a magnifying lens and a slotted portion at an opposite end which defines a tongue with which the material strip can be hung from a top edge of any page in a book. The material strip can thus be used as both a magnifying lens and a bookmark. A protective jacket according to a further embodiment of the present invention includes a plastic magnifying lens suspended from an interior surface of the protective jacket. An even further embodiment of the present invention includes a plastic magnifying lens suspended from the binding of a book. The present invention is not limited to books, but can be utilized with all types of printed materials, such as maps.
