    Abstract: A system for positioning a sensor through an inner barrier and an outer barrier includes a first collar configured for engagement with the inner or outer barriers, a collapsible coupling, and a sensor support connected to the collapsible coupling. The collapsible coupling or the sensor support is in sealing engagement with the first collar, and the first collar, collapsible coupling, and sensor support define a passage therethrough. A method for positioning a sensor includes engaging a first collar to at least one of the inner barrier or the outer barrier and inserting a sensor support connected to a collapsible coupling through the outer barrier. The method further includes connecting the sensor support or the collapsible coupling to the first collar and inserting the sensor through the sensor support.

The substrate can include a drift region including a first dopant type. A well region can be disposed adjacent to the drift region and proximal to the surface, and can include a second dopant type. A termination extension region can be disposed adjacent to the well region and extend away from the gate electrode, and can have an effective concentration of second dopant type that is generally less than that in the well region. An adjust region can be disposed between the surface and at least part of the termination extension region. An effective concentration of second dopant type may generally decrease when moving from the termination extension region into the adjust region along the surface normal direction.

    Abstract: A battery pack includes a plurality of cells. A discharge circuit is electrically connected to the plurality of cells. A computer processor is electrically connected to the discharge circuit and to an input device. The computer processor operates the discharge circuit to selectively connect a first and a second discharge load of the discharge circuit to the plurality of cells. A method of discharging a battery for safe disposal includes connecting a first discharge load in parallel to a first cell. A first voltage across the first cell is monitored. A second discharge load is connected in parallel to a second cell. A second voltage is monitored across the second cell. A processor compares the first voltage and the second voltage to a predetermined cell voltage threshold. The first discharge load and the second discharge load are disconnected from the first cell and the second cell when the first and second voltages fall below the predetermined cell voltage threshold.

    Abstract: A battery pack includes at least one battery cell that expands and contracts in relation to the chemical conditions of the battery cell. A substrate is configured to contact the at least one battery cell. A sensor is attached to the substrate and the sensor produces a signal indicative of the displacement of the substrate. A controller is communicatively connected to the sensor such that the controller receives the signal from the sensor. The controller processes the signal to produce an indication of a status of the battery cell. A method of monitoring battery safety includes movably securing a substrate across at least one cell of a battery. A displacement of the substrate is measured. The measured displacement is processed with a controller to identify a safety status of the at least one cell. An output device is operated with a controller to provide an indication of the safety status of the at least one cell of the battery.

    Abstract: A voltage switching microswitch is provided for supplying power to a hot surface igniter in a gas burning system. The microswitch is configured to operate concurrently with manual operation of a gas control valve such that rotation of an operating stem of the gas control valve produces rotation of a cam within the microswitch. The cam is configured to operate a pair of reed switches so that a relatively high voltage from a power supply is applied to the hot surface igniter following a first predetermined amount of rotation of the cam and a relatively lower voltage is applied to the hot surface igniter following a second predetermined amount of rotation of the cam to maintain the temperature of the igniter.

    Abstract: A vanadium resistant coating system resistant to high temperature vanadium attack. The system comprises a high temperature superalloy substrate. A bond coat overlies the superalloy substrate. The bond coat may be applied in multiple layers. A ceramic coating overlies the bond coat. The ceramic coating further comprises a zirconium oxide stabilized by at least one cation selected from the group consisting of Yb3+, Lu3+, Sc3+ and Ce4+, in the amounts of about 5-10 weight percent. An overcoat may overlie the ceramic coating. The overcoat may be a sacrificial layer of YSZ infiltrated with cations having an atomic radius larger than Y3+. Alternatively, the overcoat may comprise zirconium oxide stabilized by Ce4+.
