Abstract: Described here are devices for altering the flow of air in a respiratory cavity such as the mouth and nostrils of the nose. These methods and devices may be useful for affecting a physiologic benefit in patients suffering from a variety of medical diseases, particularly those that may benefit from “pursed-lip” breathing and non-invasive ventilation, such as COPD, heart failure, sleep apnea, and other medical disorders. The devices are typically removable devices that may be placed over or in a respiratory cavity to increase resistance to airflow within the respiratory cavity. Resistance to expiration may be selectively increased relative to inspiration. Removable oral and removable nasal devices are described. Oral and nasal devices that filter inhaled airflow of debris and allergens are also provided. A nasal device that increases patency of the nares is also provided.

Abstract: Software components installed in each medical device composing a medical network system is replaced efficiently and the service load on a software producer which provides the software component is reduced. A component server for storing and managing the latest versions of the software components is connected via the network to each medical device composing the medical network system. At a predetermined timing such as upon starting the medical devices for example, each medical device accesses the component server via the network or vice versa. Whether or not the component installed in each device is the latest version is checked, and the latest version is transferred from the component server to the medical device when the component is not the latest version. The medical device is then restarted.
Abstract: A method for delivering an elongated medical device along a path to a target location using a catheter procedure system includes generating a mask of the path, tracking a position of a distal portion of the elongated medical device based on a set of real-time images and determining a remaining path length based at least on the position of the distal portion of the elongated medical device. The remaining path length is a distance between the distal portion of the elongated medical device and the target location. The remaining path length decreases as the distal portion of the elongated medical device approaches the target location.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the cleaning of a ventilator manifold while it is attached to a respiratory support system. A particular embodiment of the present invention relates to a cleaning device used in conjunction with the ventilator manifold to clean the interior chamber of the manifold of patient secretions that have accumulated during the use of the manifold. The cleaning device includes a dual lumen catheter which accesses one of a plurality of manifold ports by inserting the cleaning device through a flexible boot attached to one of the manifold ports. The flexible boot allows for omni-directional use of the cleaning device inside the manifold by medical personnel. The use of the flexible boot in combination with the cleaning device allows medical personnel to cleanse the interior of the manifold without concurrent loss of respiratory support to the patient.
