  • Publication number: 20060250974
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a network service provider, e.g., a VoIP network provider, to create configuration files containing network based parameters that support global telephony capabilities (e.g., in country services) such as in country ring tones, dialing patterns, network announcements, and signaling tones that can be offered to users who want in country telephony capabilities independent of their location is disclosed. These global telephony capability configurations can be downloaded to intelligent IP phones or based in the VoIP network for access by subscribers' telephony devices.

  • Publication number: 20140036731
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling VoIP service providers to dynamically adjust international calling rates as a function of adjustments made with partner carrier arrangements that VoIP service providers put in place are disclosed. Thus VoIP service providers can pass on savings, if the new calling rate is lower than the old calling rate, to their subscribers in order to enhance the loyalty of existing subscribers. Instead of having subscribers to call into customer service centers to take advantage of these new lower international calling rates, the new calling rates will be updated dynamically and immediately for subscribers without these subscribers having to call in to request their billing rates to match the new calling rates.

  • Publication number: 20100098067
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling calls destined for a terminating point on a packet network, e.g., a VoIP network, that is experiencing a service disruption to be forwarded by the network to another endpoint is disclosed. The method enables subscribers to register an alternative number, such as a cell phone number, a relative's phone number, or a work number, that the network can use to forward calls in the event of a service disruption. In one embodiment, the provider can even use an alternative transport network, such as the PSTN, to forward these calls until the VoIP network service is restored.

  • Publication number: 20130268658
Abstract: The present invention enables a capability for packet-switched network service providers, e.g., VoIP network service providers, to monitor the CPE application usage of their subscriber to ensure that changes to the network do not interfere with these applications and to potentially provide changes to the network to enhance these premise based applications. Monitoring software will be installed in the CPE to monitor upgrades and features installed by the end users so that any potential impact to these applied applications can be assessed before a VoIP network upgrade is carried out.

  • Publication number: 20070201622
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing E911 services for nomadic users by utilizing web based updates on packet networks, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks, are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method enables a VoIP or SoIP service provider to detect a change in an IP address associated with either a broadband modem and/or a router through which a terminal adaptor is used to access services by a nomadic customer from a new location. Upon detecting such a change, the method presents a web page to the nomadic customer for entering the new physical location.

  • Publication number: 20070076692
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an overlay structure in the access portion of a packet network, e.g., a VoIP network, that allows enterprise customers to place their traffic on virtual private links for both signaling and media traffic are disclosed. The method partitions the VoIP access network components so that only subscribers of private access lines can use the virtual private traffic links across the infrastructure. These private links provide the highest quality of service backed by SLA and prioritize the traffic of subscribers of private access lines over any other traffic that is being transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20070091878
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling subscribers using any access technology and endpoint equipment to subscribe to VoIP network services and to use the advanced features provided by VoIP networks to receive incoming calls are disclosed. The present method enables subscribers to use a virtual number, which they can associate with any existing phone lines that they have already subscribed to, including traditional PSTN telephone lines, mobile phone lines, or even IP based phone lines. For example, subscribers can set up an advanced feature so that calls to this virtual phone number can be forwarded to the subscriber's phones serially or in parallel depending on the preferences of the subscriber and the identity of the incoming caller. All advanced features associated with VoIP services can be made available to subscribers through these virtual numbers.
