Abstract: A clutch system may include in certain embodiments a clutch body attached to a drive member such as a drive pulley, wherein the clutch body may be removed from the drive member without disassembling the clutch body. In various embodiments, the clutch body may include two clutch plates which enclose a spring-loaded pneumatic reciprocating assembly that in operation causes the plates to selectively separate and engage one another. In certain embodiments, the clutch body may be readily attached to a associated drive pulley in a single step by installation of a single set of fasteners.

Abstract: In a receiver for receiving a modulated carrier (MC) having asymmetrical sidebands (USB,LSB), for example, a TV signal, a synchronous demodulator (SDEM) derives a vectorial baseband signal (VB) from the modulated carrier (MC). A filter (FILT) filters the vectorial baseband signal so as to compensate for the sideband asymmetry, for example, by means of a Nyquist slope. Thus, the sideband asymmetry is compensated at baseband frequencies, rather than at an intermediate frequency, which allows a better quality of reception.

Abstract: A telescope control system is set forth for controlling the orientation of a telescope under control of a microprocessor. The telescope control includes drives to pivot the telescope about each of the declination (altitude) and right ascension (azimuth) axes in stepped increments, each increment corresponding to a control pulse. The microprocessor generates and issues the control pulses from stored data to position the telescope for viewing a selected celestial object. Control pulses are based upon and counted from an index position and/or the preceding position of the telescope. Manual override is provided, the microprocessor accounting for pulses generated during manual override.

A plurality of drive fingers project from one of the sheaves. A plurality of recesses are formed in the other sheave. Each drive finger is movably received by a corresponding one of the recesses. A bearing member is interposed between the drive fingers and the other sheave. The bearing member includes a plurality of bearing fingers. Each bearing finger is positioned between one of the drive fingers and a wall of a corresponding one of the recesses.

Abstract: An osmotic device that, following the imbibition water vapor, provides for the controlled release of a beneficial agent to a non-aqueous environment. The device comprises a hydrophilic formulation and a beneficial agent, surrounded by a wall. The wall is formed at least in part of a semipermeable hydrophobic microporous membrane having an average pores size between about 0.1 .mu.m and 30 .mu.m. The pores are substantially filled with a gas phase. The hydrophobic membrane is permeable to water in the vapor phase and the hydrophobic membrane is impermeable to an aqueous medium at a pressure less than about 100 Pa. The beneficial agent is released, for example, by osmotic pumping or osmotic bursting upon imbibition of sufficient water vapor into the hydrophilic formulation. The high water fluxes attendant with these vapor-permeable hydrophobic membranes facilitate the delivery of large quantities of beneficial agents without requiring large surface areas (quantities) of hydrophobic microporous membrane.

Abstract: A look-ahead detection system (LADS) that actively controls the suspension of at least some of the seats in a watercraft to drastically reduce the shock and/or vibrations experienced by passengers within the seats caused by waves, other water conditions and/or the bending of the craft as it travels through the water. The look-ahead detection system utilizes downward-looking sensors to help the system predict when the craft will strike the water and how strong the impact will be. That is, the look-ahead detection system uses the sensors to look forward in time and down in space.

Abstract: The process disclosed is for the preparation of clay loaded metal complex hydrogenation catalyst which is particularly suitable for the hydrogenation of oils and other unsaturated compounds such as Jojoba oil and castor oil. In the process, a platinum group metal complex MX.sub.n wherein M is a platinum group metal, X is a halide and n is 1,2,3 or 4 is refluxed with a donor substituted phosphine or arsine ligand and clay in the presence of an organic solvent. The solution is precipitated and dried. The catalyst so obtained is cheap.

Abstract: A crossed-field amplifier tube is constructed in which there is substantially no direct RF coupling between the output of the slow-wave structure on the anode and the input of the slow-wave structure of the cathode to thereby obtain a cathode-driven tube which is capable of RF pulsed operation into a linear accelerator cavity which presents a mismatched load, a short circuit impedance, at initiation and termination of the RF pulse without breaking into oscillation. During the RF pulse, the tube operates into a substantially matched load and provides high peak and average power.

Abstract: An improved matrix address system is disclosed wherein zero cross-talk and maximum contrast are obtained by utilizing a constant absolute magnitude data signal, and address and data signals in a voltage ratio equal to the square root of n, where n is the number of addressable columns and therefore the number of devices in a given row, so as to yield the maximum ratio, R, of the r.m.s. values of the "on" voltage and the "off" voltage applied to any given device, namely, R = 1 + 1/.sqroot.n.
Abstract: A commutator for a microcomputer based switched reluctance drive employs a selectively addressable non-volatile memory, e.g. a ROM, to store stator phase firing patterns and facilities selective adjustment of turn-on angle and pulsewidth of phase switching current pulses. Firing patterns differing only in pulsewidth of their respective pulses can be stored in different sections of the memory or in the same section where word bit width permits. The adjustment of pulse position and duration allows torque control of the motor over a very wide speed range.
