  • Patent number: 6943768
Abstract: A thermal control system for a liquid crystal cell is presented that may utilize a time division scheme to multiplex temperature sensing and heating functions across active thermal elements such that the cell may generally be kept at a constant temperature. A calibration process characterizes the profile of the cell and generates a polynomial regression formula that provides the voltage drive output for a temperature and cell state input. The control system stores the state of the liquid crystal cell, the regression formula, and reads the temperature of the liquid crystal cell to compute end assert the temperature compensated voltage drive.

  • Patent number: 6942915
Abstract: This invention relates to fibre reinforced plastic (“FPR”) roofing materials with a sandwich structure. A pair of sheets of FRP are arranged with a gap between them, and a rib structure which joins the sheets is interposed. Further, this invention relates to a method for producing FRP roofing material in which channels are provided in the core material and a reinforcing fibre impregnated with a resin is distributed through these channels. A preferred joint structure for the roofing material is to use butt joints and to provide a connecting layer extending across the surfaces of both ends of the sandwich structures. A layer containing a resin distribution medium is provided between the abutting end faces. This invention overcomes various problems of conventional joint structures, permitting the ends of the sandwich structures to be easily, firmly and cheaply joined together, ensuring high joint strength and rigidity, while achieving excellent appearance.

  • Patent number: 6939691
Abstract: The use of enzymes that catalyze the production of starter and extender units for polyketides in E. coli and Streptomyces is described; these enzymes include malonyl CoA decarboxylase (MatA), malonyl CoA synthetase (MatB), and a malonate transporter (MatC) as well as proprionyl CoA carboxylase (pcc). The matBC gene from Streptomyces coelicolor, the matABC genes from Rhizobium trifoli, and the pccB and accA2 from Streptomyces coelicolor are useful in specific embodiments of the claimed invention. These enzymes may be used to enhance the yield of polyketides that are natively produced or polyketides that are rationally designed. By using these techniques, the synthesis of a complete polyketide has been achieved in E. coli in the presence of a phosphopantetheinyl transferase, such as sfp from Bacillus subtilis. This achievement permits a host organism with desirable characteristics to be used in the production of such polyketides and to assess the results of gene shuffling.
