    Abstract: A nuclear reactor control system is provided in a nuclear reactor having a core operating in the fast neutron energy spectrum where criticality control is achieved by neutron leakage. The control system includes dual annular, rotatable reflector rings. There are two reflector rings: an inner reflector ring and an outer reflector ring. The reflectors are concentrically assembled, surround the reactor core, and each reflector ring includes a plurality of openings. The openings in each ring are capable of being aligned or non-aligned with each other. Independent driving means for each of the annular reflector rings is provided so that reactor criticality can be initiated and controlled by rotation of either reflector ring such that the extent of alignment of the openings in each ring controls the reflection of neutrons from the core.

    Abstract: Groups of DCVS (Differential Cascode Voltage Switch) circuits are interconnected by single-track data transfer connections. Each group contains one or more DCVS tree circuits, through which data signals propagate only on dual-track connections. In each group, at least one DCVS tree circuit is configured as an input boundary tree, and at least one tree circuit is configured as an output boundary tree. All data inputs externally applied to a group, are transferred only through input boundary trees of the group, and all data outputs transferred out of a group leave the group only through output boundary trees of the group. If a group has only a single tree, that tree serves as input and output boundary tree of the group. Each input boundary tree of each group has one or more associated primary shift register latch (SRL) circuits through which all external data inputs to that tree are transferred. Such external data inputs are received through the single-track connections mentioned above.

    Abstract: Commercial mycoherbicide compositions for the control of round-leaved mallow weeds (Malva pusilla Sm.), the active ingredient being the spores of the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides f.sp. malvae, ATCC 20767, these spores having been produced by a two-phase multi-staged liquid fermentation process, then separated from the mycelial biomass and concentrated into a spore slurry. The active ingredient of the mycoherbicide compositions, i.e., spores, can be packaged as a concentrated spore slurry or alternatively, dried and then packaged. Both the liquid and dry forms of the myco-herbicide are packaged in gas- and water-impermeable containers. The spores are stabilized prior to packaging or drying by the addition of a stabilizing agent or alternatively, stabilized after drying by adjusting their final water content. The initial, i.e.

    Abstract: An advanced telecommunication system is provided for central control of electronic signs. A display development kit is provided to create binary display programs which create visual activity on one or more electronic signs. These display programs are stored on the disk drive of a system control computer which periodically runs a system control program to upload display programs to the electronic signs using radiopaging signals. The system control program employs a telephone modem to connect through a public switched telephone network (PSTN) to a paging terminal. In accordance with the system control program, the system control computer divides each display program into multiple packets which are transmitted to the paging terminal as alphanumeric radiopages. The paging terminal encodes the packets into radiopaging format, frequency shift key modulates the data, and transmits the pages on a radio frequency channel. Electronic signs decode the radiopages into data packets.

    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, an MCM substrate product is manufactured in an additive process using multiple layers of a fluoropolymer composite material and copper. The copper layers are plated, and the fluoropolymer composite layers are laminated. A seeding process promotes reliable bonding between the fluoropolymer composite material and the plated copper. The use of the filled fluoropolymeric composite eliminates the need for a barrier metal layer between the insulation and the conductors. The MCM substrate device of the present invention may have multiple metal layers and multiple dielectric layers; four or five, or more, of each in a single structure would be easily achieved and is typical. The structure would include lead lines in separate mutually orthogonal planes (sometimes referred to as "x" and "y" lead lines) sandwiched between ground and power voltage planes of copper.

    Abstract: A method for starting up a fixed bed propylene hydration reactor containing shape selective metallosilicate catalyst particles for the production of isopropanol and/or diisopropyl ether is disclosed comprising the following sequential steps: contacting a feedstream comprising propane with catalyst particles in a hydration reactor; then introducing a feedstream comprising isopropanol into the reactor to displace propane. Next, a feedstream comprising propylene is introduced into the reactor under etherification conditions. Finally, a feedstream is introduced in the reactor comprising water under etherification and hydration reaction conditions whereby diisopropyl ether and isopropanol are produced.

    Abstract: An enzymatic transesterification method for preparing a margarine oil having both low trans- acid and low intermediate chain fatty acid content is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a transesterification reaction mixture containing a stearic acid source material and an edible liquid vegetable oil, transesterifying the stearic acid source material and the vegetable oil using a 1-, 3-positionally specific lipase, and then finally hydrogenating the fatty acid mixture to provide a recycle stearic acid source material for a recyclic reaction with the vegetable oil. Also described is a counter-current method for preparing a transesterified oil.

In a preferred embodiment the asymmetric ionic quarternary ammonium salt is (3-lauramidopropyl) trimethylammonium sulfate.

    Abstract: Telecommunications or similar bills are prepared on diskette in an optimal format for further processing, display, and analysis on popularly-available, inexpensive personal computers. A telecommunications carrier provides, for participating customers, appropriately selected billing records at the stage in the carrier's ordinary billing process after the carrier has completed all billing activities except actually printing a paper bill. This ensures that the information ultimately supplied on diskette will exactly correspond to that on the paper bill. In a first step, preferably performed on a large computer, the records are sorted, edited and reformatted into an optimal organization for further processing on a personal computer. In addition, a variety of preprocessed summary reports and graphs are prepared for rapid retrieval on the customer's computer.

    Abstract: A Josephson junction and a method for its fabrication in which a laminated junction layer is formed in situ on the side edge of a base electrode contact. The laminated junction layer forms the Josephson junction of the present invention and includes an insulating or barrier layer sandwiched between a superconducting base electrode and a superconducting counter electrode. The Josephson junction is formed on the side edge of the base electrode contact to allow very small junction areas to be fabricated using conventional optical lithographic techniques, such as photolithography. The laminated junction layer is formed in situ, with the three layers of the laminated junction layer being formed successively without removing the device from the controlled atmosphere of the deposition system, to prevent contamination of the junction region.

The tailstock body is movable on the slideway between a home position away from the workpiece and a work engaging position. A limit switch and trip members associated with the tailstock, and a hydrulic circuit are provided for controlling the movement of the tailstock body from the home position to an intermediate position prior to the work engaging position at an initial feed rate and from the intermediate position to the work engaging position at a subsequent feed rate where the initial feed rate is greater than the subsequent feed rate.

The formed conductive via bodies comprise a uniform conductive skeletal network of sintered metal particles densely packed within a uniform matrix of the co-sintered ceramic and/or glass spheres, which matrix is hermetically fused and integrated with ceramic layers forming the wall of the via in the ceramic circuit substrate.

    Abstract: The invention resides in oligosaccharide derivatives which are obtained by the enzynmatic cleavage of carbohydrates linked to proteins through asparagine groups. The oligosaccharide moieties of the instant invention are 1-amino-1-deoxyoligosaccharide compounds which are cleaved from a glycoprotein with an aminohydrolase enzyme, wherein the amino group of the oligosaccharide is subsequently substituted with a fluorescent reporter compound. The compounds of the instant invention are characterized by the glycosylamine bonds exhibiting less than 10% hydrolysis at 25.degree. C. in aqueous solution over a two days at pH values between 4-10.

Autonomous vehicle navigation comprises travel over paths marked by update markers which may be spaced well apart, such as fifty feet Redundant measurement capability comprising inputs from linear travel encoders from the vehicle's drive wheels, position measurements from the update markers, and bearing measurements from a novel angular rate sensing apparatus, in combination with the use of a Kalman filter, allows correction for navigation and guidance errors caused by such factors as angular rate sensor drift, wear, temperature changes, aging, and early miscalibration during vehicle operation.
