Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a rotor assembly for an electric motor which utilizes pre-fabricated conductive rotor bars and die cast end rings. Containment rings, which may be installed on the end rings either before or after casting, may be used to inhibit end ring creep at high rotational speeds.
Abstract: A dual ratio constant mesh gearbox is provided that is suitable for use with an automobile, and particularly well-suited for an electric vehicle. The gearbox, which may be configured either as a manual or automatic gearbox, utilizes a planetary gear set and a pair of clutches to shift between under drive and direct drive modes.
Abstract: A battery pack monitoring system is provided that continually monitors the current at the fuse and, when the system determines that the fuse is close to its operating limit, limits battery pack current by limiting traction motor torque.

Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric motor is provided that includes coolant passageways that pass through the rotor's lamination stack, thereby providing means for directly cooling the rotor assembly. In order to promote cooling, the coolant passageways within the lamination stack may be shaped, for example in a helical or spiral pattern.
Abstract: An accelerator pedal feedback system is provided that supplies the driver with a tactile indicator, via a change in pedal resistance, when a monitored vehicle characteristic such as battery pack capacity falls below a preset level. The change in pedal resistance is achieved by preloading the accelerator pedal's spring assembly.
Abstract: A compact planetary gear differential is provided that allows the sun gears to be placed in close proximity to one another. The inclusion of an idler gear that bridges the planet gears in each planetary gear set achieves a stronger gear set, and thus a differential configuration that is less susceptible to damage.
Abstract: A car door handle that lies flush with the car door exterior surface prior to engagement is provided. Once engaged, the car door handle rotates out and away from the door. After the handle is fully deployed, a grip-through loop is presented to the user, thus simplifying door control.
Abstract: A two wire bidirectional bus system is provided in which at least one of the slave nodes is configured to enter into a sleep mode, thereby minimizing power drainage, whenever the bus master stops transferring data over the bidirectional bus, and to wake up whenever the bus master begins to transfer data over the bidirectional bus.
Abstract: A motor assembly with an integrated cooling system is provided in which a coolant (e.g., oil) is injected into a hollow region of the rotor shaft. The coolant is expelled out of the rotor shaft and into the motor enclosure via multiple thru-holes, thereby allowing efficient cooling of both the stator and the rotor assemblies.

Abstract: A method is provided for learning driver preferences relative to the use of a vehicle's camera system, where the system automatically activates a specific camera based on these driver preferences, and where the driver preferences include both identification of the specific camera and the geographic locations associated with activating and then deactivating that camera.
Abstract: A dual ratio constant-mesh gearbox is provided that is suitable for use with an automobile, and particularly well-suited for an electric vehicle. The gearbox, which may be configured either as a manual or automatic gearbox, utilizes a planetary gear set and a pair of clutches to shift between under drive and direct drive modes.
Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle's display system is provided, where the system monitors the user's position within the vehicle's seat and automatically adjusts the location of the display to compensate for variations in the size or seating position of the user, thereby helping to alleviate the eye strain, fatigue, neck and back pain that often accompany the improper use of a monitor for an extended period of time.

The gearbox, which may be configured either as a manual or automatic gearbox, utilizes a planetary gear set and a pair of clutches to shift between under drive and direct drive modes.
Abstract: A retractable workstation that is mounted within the dashboard of a vehicle is provided. In the retracted position the workstation is hidden from sight, while in the extended position it provides a convenient and ergonomic desk for use by the front seat passenger. The retractable workstation includes a desktop and may additionally include a rear desk organizer and/or an integrated display screen and/or an integrated keyboard.
Abstract: A system and method of use is provided that monitors the position of a vehicle seat and automatically adjusts the location of a vehicle display based on the current seat position, thereby helping to alleviate the eye strain, fatigue, neck and back pain that often accompany the improper use of a monitor for an extended period of time.
Abstract: An air vent that is integrated into the back panel of a vehicle's seat back is provided. The air vent, which is coupled to an air duct within the vehicle seat, allows heated or cooled air from the vehicle's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system to be directed towards the rear portion of the vehicle's passenger cabin, thereby helping to insure the comfort of those passengers in the vehicle's rear seats.
