    Abstract: An oriented PIFA-type apparatus for reducing hearing aid radio frequency (RF) interference including a directional multi-band and/or single band antenna for use with PWDs such as digital cellphones is disclosed. The apparatus greatly reduces or eliminates the audio noise induced in hearing aids by the PWDs and allows operation of a hearing aid during PWD operation. In operation, the apparatus may be provided on the PWD side away from the user's head. The apparatus may be integrated into the PWB during its manufacture or provided as an after market assembly for a PWD that has a port for connection of an external antenna. The apparatus provides for improved front-to-back ratio as compared to antennas currently in use on PWD's, and therefore also reduces SAR (specific absorption rate), the level of RF energy received into the head by a PWD.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a structure of an antenna and its shielding structure for a mobile phone which may significantly reduce the hazardous electromagnetic wave transmitted to the user's body. The present invention arranges a monopole antenna inside of the mobile phone housing, and installs an electromagnetic wave absorber between the antenna and the circuit board. The electromagnetic wave absorber can absorb the electromagnetic wave reflected form conductive plate constituting the circuit board. Thus, the adverse effect of the reflected electromagnetic wave to the performance of antenna is prevented and the amount of the electromagnetic wave to which the users is exposed can be significantly reduced as well.

By arranging the matching network between the mainboard body and the mainboard end part of the wireless communication device and changing, through the matching network, the distribution of the surface current induced by the antenna, the embodiments of the present invention may simultaneously guarantee the SAR performance and the wireless performance of a wireless communication terminal and improve the user experience.

    Abstract: An antenna designing method and a data single board of a wireless terminal are disclosed. The method provided by the embodiments of the present invention includes: dividing a semi-closed area without other metal wirings on a data card single board of the wireless terminal; and arranging an antenna wiring and a metal coupling piece in the semi-closed area, where the antenna wiring and the metal coupling piece are parallel and overlap one another, a gap exists between the metal coupling piece and the data card single board, and the metal coupling piece is coupled with the data card single board via the gap. An embodiment of the present invention also provides a data card single board of a wireless terminal. According to the embodiments of the present invention, a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) value of the antenna is reduced, and a working bandwidth of a broadband is realized.

    Abstract: A method is provided for reducing near-field radiation and specific absorption rate values in a communications device that includes a multimode antenna structure transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals and circuitry for processing signals communicated to and from the antenna structure. The method includes adjusting the relative phase between signals fed to neighboring antenna ports of the antenna structure such that a signal fed to the one antenna port has a different phase than a signal fed to the neighboring antenna port to provide antenna pattern control and to increase gain in a selected direction toward a receive point. The method features using a transmit power lower than the transmit power used in a non-pattern control operation of the antenna structure such that the communications device obtains generally equivalent wireless link performance with the receive point using reduced transmit power compared to the non-pattern control operation, thereby reducing the specific absorption rate.

One apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) including a surface-current dispersing circuit and an antenna structure coupled to the RF feed at a feeding point and coupled to a ground plane at a grounding point. The antenna structure comprises an even multiple of quarter-wavelength elements with a first element coupled to the feeding point and a second element coupled to the grounding point and the grounding point is located at a specified distance from the feeding point. Surface currents, generated as a result of the RF signals being applied to the RF feed at the feeding point, create a first hot spot of an even multiple of hot spots of magnetic field at the feeding point. The surface-current dispersing circuit and the ground point disperse a portion of the surface currents at the feeding point towards the grounding point to create other hot spots of the even multiple of hot spots.

    Abstract: A retractable whip antenna incorporating a matching base loading helix for use in mobile communications devices is disclosed. The antenna functions without the use of a matching circuit since selection of the radiating elements provides a constant input impedance to the transceiver circuitry. The resulting antenna provides excellent gain over the PCS frequency band, low SAR values, circuit design flexibility and low cost. In a preferred embodiment, the retractable whip is comprised of a radiating element with an electrical length of 1/2 wavelength and having a first end attached to a conductive spring contact. The base loading helix comprises a radiating helical element with an electrical length of 1/4 wavelength and having a first end connected to a mobile transceiver circuit and a second end comprising a conductive capturing coil. The radiating whip element is constrained within the coil of the helical element and is freely moveable to an extended or a retracted position.

    Abstract: A compact single or multiple band antenna assembly for wireless communications devices. One multi-band embodiment includes a high frequency portion and a low frequency portion, both fed at a common point by a single feed line. Both portions may be formed as a single stamped metal part or metallized plastic part. The overall size is suitable for integration within a wireless device such as a cell phone. The low frequency portion consists of two resonant sections which are stagger tuned to achieve a wide resonant bandwidth, thus allowing greater tolerance for manufacturing variations and temperature than a single resonant section, and is useful for single band antennas as well as multi-band antennas where it may be used to enhance bandwidth for both sections of a dual band antenna as well. The resonant sections for single or multi-band antennas operate in conjunction with a second planar conductor, which may be provided by the ground trace portion of the printed wiring board of a wireless communications device.
