Abstract: A microbiological process for the production of S-(+)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxamide, starting from R,S-(.+-.)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxamide. For this process, new microorganisms are selected and isolated, which are capable of biotransforming R-(-)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxamide in racemic 2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxamide to R-(-)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid. The process can then be performed either with the microorganisms or with the cell-free enzymes from the microorganisms.
Abstract: The invention is directed to the design of DNA-binding proteins (DBP's) with capabilities of binding to any predetermined target double-stranded DNA sequence. Disclosed are the rules for design of the proteins; an algorithm for screening for the optimal DBP's; a computer system employing the rules and the algorithm; general formulae encompassing the proteins; and methods of use of the proteins.

Abstract: A procedure for reading data stored on a data storage disc in a disc drive is disclosed. The procedure involves reading data from one or more sectors on the data storage disc after an error occurred while initially reading the sector(s) pursuant to a read command issued by a host computer. During the initial read, the procedure logs information pertaining to the sector(s) on the disc where an error occurred. The logged information is then used during the procedure to retrieve data from the sector(s) in a single revolution of the disc. The procedure uses a skip mask, a vector buffer management list and a data throttling mechanism to administer a transfer of data from a disc to a host computer via a data buffer.

Abstract: The invention relates to peptide, oligopeptide or polypeptide compounds that are capable of eliciting a protective immune response against the capsular polysaccharide of group B Streptococcus (GBS), particularly type III GBS. Such compounds are useful in the development of vaccines that are effective against diseases caused by these pathogens.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the manufacture of blood-platelet aggregation inhibiting agent. In particular, the present invention is directed to a process for the manufacture of Methyl-(+)-(S)-?-(2-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydrothieno [3,2-c]pyridine-S-(4H)acetate bisulfate Form-I.
Abstract: A system and/or method for sensing the presence of moisture (e.g., rain) and/or other material(s) on a window such as a vehicle window (e.g., vehicle windshield, sunroof or backlite). In certain example embodiments of the invention, at least one sensing capacitor is supported by a window such as a vehicle windshield, the capacitor(s) having a field that is affected by moisture (e.g., rain) on a surface of the window. The at least one sensing capacitor may have a fractal geometry in certain example embodiments of this invention. The sensing circuit may output an analog signal that is based on and/or related to the sensing capacitor(s). The analog output of the circuit may be converted to a digital signal, and subjected to processing (e.g., correlation) for determining whether moisture (e.g., rain, dew, fog, etc.) or the like is present on the surface of the window.
Abstract: An airfoil includes an airfoil wall that defines a leading end, a trailing end, and pressure and suction sides that join the leading end and the trailing end. The airfoil wall includes a wishbone-shaped fiber layer structure that has a pair of arms that merge into a single leg. The pair of arms are formed by first and second S-shaped fiber layers each of which is comprised of a network of fiber tows. The first and second S-shaped fiber layers merge to form the single leg. The single leg comprises fiber tows from each of the first and second S-shaped fiber layers that are interwoven, and the single leg forms at least a portion of the trailing end of the airfoil wall.

Abstract: After document data have been inputted by operating character keys, if an automatic setting key is operated to allow the print character size to be set automatically and a print key is then operated, printing process control is executed and the greatest character size printable on a tape mounted in the tape printing apparatus is set (S33), a base line position shifting process is performed so that the character is positioned around the center of the width of the tape (S34). Then, dot image data in the print character size that is set on the basis of the document data is generated (S31) and the dot image data is output to the printing mechanism to be printed on the tape (S32).
