Abstract: Techniques and architectures are disclosed for a gas operating system for a firearm. The system includes a barrel having a bore including a rifled portion. Attached to the barrel is a gas block. Located distally of the rifled portion of the bore is a gas expansion chamber in fluid communication with the bore and the gas block. In some examples, the gas expansion chamber includes a diameter at least twice the bore diameter. The gas block of the gas operating system, in some examples, includes a piston, where in response to receiving gases from the gas expansion chamber, the piston cycles the gas operating system.

Abstract: A suppressor for a firearm includes a baffle stack having an outer surface, the baffle stack comprising a plurality of baffles that define an inner chamber extending along a central axis of the baffle stack and a projectile pathway through the baffle stack along the central axis. An outer housing is around the baffle stack and defines an outer volume between the outer housing and the baffle stack. Structures and openings in the suppressor promote a sinuous gas flow path through the inner chamber that enhances turbulent flow within the suppressor and reduces backpressure as desirable when used with a machine gun.
Abstract: A firearm projectile has a core extending along a central axis from a base portion to a tip portion, the base portion generally having a cylindrical shape and the tip portion comprising an ogive shape. A jacket encases the core along the base portion and the tip portion, the jacket having a shank portion defining a closed rear end and an ogive portion extending to an open front end. Protrusions extend into the core from an inside of the shank portion, the protrusions having a spaced-apart arrangement with each protrusion engaging the core to retain the core together with the jacket upon impact with a target.
Abstract: A riflescope that stores several grouped ballistics data includes a reticle having individually addressable indicators, a memory that stores two or more stored sets of ballistics data, where each set of ballistics data is mapped to a respective set of indicators of the reticle, a selector configured to choose one of the stored sets of ballistics data as an active set of ballistics data, and a driver structured to energize only those indicators of the plurality of indicators that are mapped to the active set of ballistics data. Methods of selecting an active group of ballistics data are also described.
Abstract: A firearm stock extension assembly enables a stock to be collapsed when a firearm is not in active use, and extended from a collapsed configuration directly to the user's preferred stock length. This is accomplished without requiring the user to actuate a lever to release a detent mechanism and without the need for hand tools to adjust the length of the stock. The firearm stock extension assembly includes an insert that defines at least one insert aperture. When properly placed, the insert aperture of the insert lines up with a corresponding extension aperture on the stock. Other than the corresponding extension aperture exposed by the insert aperture, all other extension apertures are concealed by the solid portions of the insert.
Abstract: A weapon system is provided. The weapon system includes a receiver and an operating group. The operating group includes a bolt at least partially housed within the receiver; an operating rod (op-rod) assembly arranged to axially translate within the bolt. The operating group also includes a carrier assembly, a bolt assembly, and a recoil assembly. The system further includes a hinge or pivot joint at a connection between the recoil assembly and the carrier assembly, a firing pin lock, an elastomeric cone interface between the bolt assembly and the receiver, a hollowed out piston, and/or tapering on the lug of the bolt assembly.

Abstract: A detachable box magazine for firearms includes a hollow magazine tube extending longitudinally along a median plane. The magazine tube defines a single-stack portion extending to an upper tube end with an upper tube opening. The magazine tube defines a double-stack portion positioned below the single-stack portion and extending to a bottom tube end with a bottom tube opening. For example, opposite lateral margins of the front sidewall can have a stepped shape between the upper tube end and the double-stack portion. The rear sidewall can have a linear taper between the upper tube end and the double-stack portion.

Abstract: A detachable box magazine for firearms includes a hollow magazine tube extending longitudinally along a median plane. The magazine tube defines a single-stack portion extending substantially to an upper tube end that defines an upper tube opening. The magazine tube has a double-stack portion positioned below the single-stack portion and extending to a bottom tube end. For example, front portions of the opposite tube sidewalls have a stepped shape between the upper tube end and the double-stack portion, and the rear portions of the sidewalls have a linear taper between the upper tube end and the double-stack portion.

Abstract: A charging handle assembly includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. A handle is connected to the proximal end portion of the body and is translatable along the body between a first position and a second position. A latch is connected to the handle or the body and is operable between a latched position and an unlatched position. Moving the handle from the first position to the second position moves the latch from the latched position to the unlatched position. Also disclosed is a charging handle assembly with a latch configured to engage a top of the lower receiver.

Abstract: A multi-piece ammunition cartridge casing includes a casing base extending along a central axis and defining an opening extending axially into the casing base from the distal base end. The inner casing surface defines a circumferential groove with a groove radius greater than a radius of an adjacent portion of the opening. The cartridge casing also includes a casing body with a proximal end portion disposed in the opening of the casing base. The casing body is secured to the casing base by way of a flange protruding radially outward in mating contact with the circumferential groove.

Abstract: A system for indicating an energy transfer level having an optical sighting system and a mobile application running on a mobile device. The optical sighting system has an electronic, non-numeric performance indicator structured to provide a notification signal to a user. The mobile application is configured to receive a user input indicative of a desired terminal performance value for a projectile. The optical lighting system is configured to activate, when a predicted terminal performance value does not exceed the desired terminal performance value, an electronic, non-numeric performance indicator structured to provide a notification signal to a user. The electronic, non-numeric performance indicator may be an intermittently-displayed hold-over point indicator.
